Hi everyone!
New to the forum here. Looking to hopefully learn some good information about my square body truck. Always loved them. The one I am restoring was given to me by my father who had it since I was a kid. A 1979 GMC Sierra Grande short bed.
Long story short I rearended someone in it when I was 15 driving to school in my first Montana winter the first day it snowed. I'm 35 now and so it needs some major TLC, which it will be receiving soon. But right now she is about five different colors.
My plans for the truck are to first strip it down and sandblast and powdercoat the frame. Then I want to put a 1-ton running gear in (Dana 60 etc.) and I purchased an NV4500 5-speed to replace the SM465 4-speed already. It has a SBC 350 Vortec roller motor right now but I'd also like to swap that out for an L29 454 roller motor out of a 1-ton pickup, like a 1998 or so. Or maybe just throw in a 502 crate motor. I just love the torque of the big blocks.
And it's a darn good thing my brother is a mechanic so I have him to help me giterdun!
