Unconditional warranty means just that, no conditions. It broke, replace it. Craftsman used to be good years ago about replacement of broken stuff. When my Dad passed a few years ago and we clean out his workshops I find a dozen or so broken Craftsman screwdrivers. Took them to Lowe's and they said "go find the same one or close and bring it to the return area." I swapped them all out, no questions asked. Most of these were bought in the 70s and 80s.

The thing that always aggravated me the most is the SnapOn guy I dealt with always acted like it was coming out of his pocket, we finally told him to stop coming by our shop, and when I needed something warranted both my brother in laws worked for auto dealer shops, I’d just give it to them for a hassle free exchange, never had any issues with the Mac, Marco or Cornwell, just SnapOn

Sounds like your driver was just a snooty a$$hole.

Over the years, I've bought from 5 or so different drivers. It didn't matter where you got the tool or what you were doing when it broke, it got replaced. Even if it was a ratchet that you found in the road with a broken handle. That handle got replaced, no questions asked, despite being covered in road rash.

Although there was one driver that refused to warranty broken or severely worn air hammer bits. I don't know if they are actually lifetime warranty or not, but the other drivers would warranty them.

I'm not sure how Snap-On prices can be justified even by pro mechanics. After retirement, I worked part-time for a guy with 30+ years experience as a Ford tech, and later as a Lexus tech. He hired me to work in a shop he opened where all we did was work on classics and hot rods . He has lots of Matco and Snap-on tools that he bought over the years. But, except for some specialized tools, he stopped buying from them several years ago, and started using Sunex and SK for significantly less money.

Availability. Where would I go to get Sunnex or SK these days? That's a legit question too, I have several broken sockets. Then once that hurdle is jumped, where will I go 5 years from now?

However, it's not like they have anyone to stop by your shop every week. That is (or was) the Snap-on advantage. That and financing, I guess.

I worked as salesman for a Nissan dealer back in the 90s. Don't laugh--I was between real jobs! Anyway, I made friends with one of the techs after he pulled a Maxima auto trans in mid-morning morning, tore it complete down to repair it, and had the car ready to go that afternoon. I was in awe, and still am to this day. You pros are beyond impressive.

Bucket, Snooty a$$hole wouldn’t quite cover it, the first time I walked into his truck he handed me a credit application, I kindly told him I didn’t come in here to buy anything and needed a few things warranted, screw drivers and a couple split sockets and we went down hill from there till I talked to the foreman and we ran his ass off, I ran into him years later at a local watering hole we’d stop by and he was all smiles hey how you doing and a load of other crap, all I said was hey and proceeded to join a few of my friends, screw him

They can use their discretion with warranty stuff. I once saw a coworker use a deep snap on 1 1/2" socket as a press fixture for a wheel bearing. He wound up pounding on it with a hammer and peened both ends over. So much so the square hole was fubar. He handed it to the snap on guy and he gave it right back. Long story short he got corporate involved and they told him to pound salt..
