Fuel gauge wiring duel to single tank swap

I have a74 c10 full gauge non tach dash duel tank truck and Ive swapped to a single tank fuel cell in the rear. My question is ,what wire could I use to hook up the factory fuel gauge? I have grounded the tank to the frame twice and ran a new brown sender wire back into the cab. I've removed all of the duel tank wiring also... Thanks :shrug:

I assume that the fuel gauge wiring (at least the part that is incorporated into the IP circuit board) would still be intact. The gauge has three connections to the PCB. But they are not in the form of wires - there are studs on the back of the gauge that are made to snap into spring clips. At least I think that is the method used, even back in 1974.

All you need to do is find the common tan wire that used to serve the senders in both tanks. It only runs a short distance - from the back of the IP to the firewall. It was most likely in a group with the rest of the dual tank leads.

Once you locate that TAN-30 lead, just splice your new tank sender lead to it and that's it. The other two connections for the gauge (an ignition switched hot & a ground) are the same for both single/dual tank setups, and they will be part of the IP harness/PCB.

Got a 74 here as well, that's exactly the style of gauge connections used.

The solenoid and manual valve dual tank seutps used the single tank wire as a disconnect on the frame rail.
The dual tank harness has the same male pin jack as the tank sender to mate with that wire.
You should be able to unplug the dual tank harness at that disconnect in the Tan wire and plug that connector directly onto the LH or RH tank sender depending on what rail that connector is located.

The other option is to leave it alone and let the dash switch continue to do its' job connecting whatever tank you keep to the gauge.
