Fwiw, the boxing kit should work fine, I have an 87 frame under my 91 body.

Colorado k5 is another good site

Don’t know why you’d want that much lift

I’ve seen K5s on 44s with a 4” lift and fender trimming
max out on a rti ramp

The folks on Pirate tend to heckle (even more so) the big giant mud trucks.

The K5 frames changed in '78, they kick out a bit towards the rear, but the front section is basically the same between the two. Imho, the front half is what would benefit the most from boxing anyway.

You must be registered for see images attach

Question time...

If you box the front of the frame does it make the rest of the frame more prone to crack where the frame "boxing" leaves off?

Also, I wouldn't forget the reinforcement plate for the steering box.

I think somebody makes a kit with all the metal precut and bent for boxing the frame

Planned on reinforcing it for sure, but hydraulic assisted steering is the name of the game here, so alot of the stress will be alleviated with a 2x10 ram up front

I'd have to see pictures of the trimming, I feel sure there might've been some offset on the wheels as well. While 4" would be great with 53" tires, I have to consider bottoming the pumpkin on the 5 tons on my 502's oil pan

If boxing just the front half, the boxing plates would need to 'taper off' into the unboxed section. Much like the '88-'98 truck frames.

I must ask, for my application, with a 1200# front axle, 330# each tire, 900# rear, is boxing just the front necessary? No sarcasm intended

If you want to run it hard, I'm sure it will help the frame a bunch. The rear has the body structure to help strengthen it.

Big block might weigh 800? Idk, cast block aluminum heads, forged rotating assembly.

I think some place also makes an X brace that goes in the center of the frame

Wonder if using the K30 frame and shortening it would be stronger

It’s taller and thicker

I'll tell you, reading over this again, i meant to word it like, with all of that weight, is boxing just the front going to be enough

I'd box the whole frame.
I built a 1929 Chevrolet hot rod in 2001, boxed the frame front to back, Changed all original cross members installed an independent front suspension, ladder bars in the back. I drove that car for 15 years.
Really glad i took the time to build a solid base.
