Actually I just found a can I sued to coat my frame its called RP-342, I could have sworn GM had a product of the same but I may be mistaken.

That appears the same or similar to the GM “wax” coating. I bet it’s good stuff. Cosmoline has been around forever. They also make the rattle can version in black color like fluid film.
And knowing what I know now compared to when I left the rust belt 30 years ago I’d definitely have an arsenal of all that stuff if I was battling the chlorides every winter!

I think I will be going with the woolwax for a majority of the truck. I like that it’s thicker. And I see a gallon of it at a good price. My question is, if i buy their cheap gun, is it something I can do in the driveway? IE - without a lift - meaning the gun may be pointed almost vertically at times. Can it handle this? Another thought is to just brush or roll it on. Anyone have experience actually applying the stuff?
I bought a cheap HVLP gun with the biggest nozzle off Amazon along with a gallon of fluid film black and it worked great, very little over spray and the gun handle the thickness just fine

I've used Fluid Film for years on Agricultural equipment, especially on fertilizer equipment. Fluid Film makes a product called Fluid Film Black. I haven't used it yet, (because I just ordered some) but if it's anything like the original Fluid Film it will be a great product.

I am in the process of doing some body work (rockers/floor patching) and want to clean up my frame while Im at it. There is what appears to be paint that is mostly just flaking off. The frame is solid with lots of life left. Im going to fluid film the frame and probably the floors as well.

I am wondering if i should paint first or not. I wasnt planning on it but thought i should ask. I am generally against the various under coat type options as they seem to do more harm than good in the long run.

I think fluid film over bare frame metal is the way to go but please correct me if im wrong.
There is no credible info that Fluid Film will wash off and not provide protection during a winter. It is used extensively in the NE as an undercoat to prevent rust. When applied does not look like goop. Looks a hell of a lot better than rust. Fluid film is often reapplied each season. It is also used as a cavity wax.
I plan to power wash what I can under my C10, and once dry, spray the frame and floor with Fluid Film. I also plan to spray it inside rockers and cab corners with radial nozzle extension.

I know a old farmer, who does what his daddy did.
2 parts used engine oil, 1 part diesel. (diesel makes it creep) sprays it on with a hand pump on dry days in the fall. does it on jack stands ...over "sacrificial ground" ...that already has plenty of petroleum in it already after years of doing vehicles and farm equipment.)

keeps the farm trucks rust free frames / under parts.. sold a 1985 1 ton chevy recently,...usually has 2 1995 era dodge 1 ton diesel manuals poking around. (tries to get 300,000 on the bodies,...keeps switching up uses old one for parts.)

sacrificial lambs are important though: he drives on the road any cheap crap 4 cylinder car, and things like old trailblazers,...(those look pretty good too,....well parked, like lawn ornaments when they get too expensive to fix),...along with whatever 30 year old broken turd plowt truc ain't snapped in half yet.
...those farm trucks never see a grocery store parking lot, they are for work, ...towing cattle / horse trailers, humping off road in pastures.

Another popular version of this with the 4wd crowd is spray the bottom with used motor oil then go for a drive down a gravel road. No idea if it works,I use ospho.

I forgot to say this process has a local title: this old farmer says when he does it he's "douching up his bitches".
(I am sure he's got navel jelly for anyplace with a noticeable rust....before the mix goes on).

I still remember way back when, they used to spray oil on gravel roads to keep dust down I believe, not climate friendly that's for sure and didn't help the vehicles appearance after driving on it either.

And that’s how we ended up with the whole Russell Bliss/Dioxin/Times Beach/Shenandoah Stables incidents (among other locations)
