fluid capacity in TH400

Just did filter and gasket on my 1986 Chevy k20. I added 5 qts and it doesnt read at all on the stick when warm.

How many qts should it take

Is it possible the seal between the trans and t-case is bad letting your fluid spill over into the t-case? Might check the t-case fluid.

Check the t-case oil and see if you can tell it has trans fluid in it. HRPC would be the man on this one.

my 208 has transfluid in to. thats what i was told to put in it

trans fluid in the 208 is correct, will hold about 5 quarts, i put a snythetic in the transfer as it doesn't get serviced that often

how would i tell if that happend??

Just pull the fill plug and see if there's an excess of fluid in the t-case (it will run out of the fill hole).

Nope, just stick your finger in there and make sure the fluid level is close to the bottom of the hole. If it is, then your t-case level is fine.

fill it up until it reads on the stick, somebody could have a deep pan in it, it could have been low before, and yes the t-case can get overfilled by it, mine did. Yours is good though if it didn't run out the hole.

Somebody might even have the wrong dipstick in it? Either that or tough to see, I can barely see new fluid on the stick I have to feel for it.
