Fishing wires for 3rd brake light. Can’t seem to make it work.

Any advice on how to get this done? I’ve got a factory cargo light, and I bought the United Pacific LED replacement for its bulb/lens. This thing also had red LEDs in it that work as a 3rd brake light. I know where to wire it up at the brake switch, or at least I think I know hahahaha! What I can’t figure out is how to fish the wires down to the floor to run under the door sill plate and up to the brake light switch. I took the cargo light off and also the cargo light switch out and tried to push some baling wire through but just couldn’t get it. Any tips on how I can get this to work?

Can you use the existing wires to the cargo light to pull a fish tape down and return the wires the same way?

Can they be taped to the interior cab roof, hidden by the head liner, and windshield pillar? That’s my plan B if I have the same issue as you do fishing the wires in the roof space.

I went from the hole where the light is and fished it towards the drivers side corner - it drops down where the behind the seat speakers go. Pretty straight forward and took me (maybe) 2 tries?

OK, I’ll take the drivers side rear speaker bracket out and try again.

You could try an electrician's snake. They are stiffer than bailing wire.

I had a hell of a time fishing in wires for a new dome lite going behind the speaker and up the wall. I finally cut the light socket off of the wires and was able to fish up just wires and then re soldered the light socket back on.

You can make your own snake with bailing wire. Cut a 6 foot length. Bend it in the middle, make a tight loop. Clamp the loop in a vise, use Visegrips to clamp the two ends. Now pull tight from the vise and just keep twisting the bailing wire with the Vise grips.

You can make one longer or shorter.

I use 10ga primary wire. Have a piece about 15-20 ft long. Smooth outside is easy to fish, is white so easy to see and I can bend it however needed and it stays.

Fish lines work good too.
