I have a question on this if I may ask.

Running an electric fan, what kind of water pump do you run

Same old water pump without the mechanical clutch fan bolted on.

the electric fans if you get the right 1 come with there own shroud

Exactly. That's the great part about E fans. You get to take off that crap that gets in your way when working on the front of the motor. The fan clutch, fan and OEM shroud. I've not see an E fan yet that come contained in it's own shroud. Now you can buy a replacement fan motor to repair your E Fan, but the E fan assembly as a unit should have it's own shroud.

anyone know what temp setting is the thermal fan switch in the head of the original bbc 454 tbi , like mines it a 1988 . it has an electric fan in the front of the radiator a pusher . mines does not work anymore but I think it was design to come on at 180* . I was thinkin of using it for my electric fans since I already put a new 1 in . any thoughts

well I ran ground to the fan temp switch for the electric fan that goes in front of the radiator on my 88 dually and viola it came on so it does work just maybe comes on at a high temperature. so when I add my electric fans I will have all 3 working off a lower temp switch .

I do believe that is a last resort or booster temp fan. I know for a fact mine isn't running a 200 degrees, but I've seen it running before when I went to the truck after it had been idling for awhile in front of the garage door. So maybe the truck got pretty warm sitting there with no air. Maybe 210 or 220. You've probably got the right idea. Find the temp switch and change it out for a lower temp switch. with a 195 degree thermostat, I'd like mine to come on at 185-190 and maybe off at 170-180. Not sure what those parameters are to be honest without looking them up.

I am thinking of running a 170* thermostat and getting a switch that comes on at 180* off at 160*, that way the thermostat gets to let the water flow

there is a 170, but I also have tbi, but I also read they mostly had engines running hotter for emissions , but I really don't want it to run to cold, my bbc chevelle has 160 stat with holes drilled into it but this is my race car but it still goes to 200 with a pass lol . bbc make a lot of heat, so i will use a 180.

I've always used 180's in my 454's too and never had a problem. Did dabble once with a 190 on a friends suggestion but switched it back within the week...it was like it took too long to open and the system just couldn't get it back (was towing at that moment and may not had given the 190 much of a shot to be honest). Hard to see the need to change when things just work.

From my experiences, the same rules apply to both SBC and BBC, even though it's nature of the BBC's to run warmer. 160 is to cool, 180 is about just right for a NON COMPUTER controlled motor. If it is computer controlled, then you pretty much need to run the 195 Tstat and so long as all the computer functions are working properly, they'll run well too.

Many times guys will think a colder thermostat makes a motor run cooler. Not so much. If it's nature to run 190 degrees, it's going to get there whether it's a 160 or 180 Tstat. the 180 just ensures you'll get warmed up quicker when you want your heater to work in the winter and that the motor will reach 180 in the winter time. No thermostat is no good at all.

WELL I DID MY OWN WIRING ON MY 2002 Pontiac Montana fans and wow those 2 fans move some air gonna hook them up 2 the truck when I get time and use the auxillary fan when the a/c comes on. here is the stock auxillary fan

So you got you some from an 02 Montana? So you're using them as aux fans instead of the main fans?
