Defrost duct gap

There is a gap between the defrost duct and the inside hvac “main” box. This is a 87 K5 with AC.

Am I missing a piece or is this how they came?

I am thinking maybe there should be a Foam Seal inbetween.

Start checking with aftermarket companies for a Foam seal. Looks like there would be one, looking at the picture closely now i see there is that Lip on the bottom part of the Duct. It's meant for something that is for sure. even my g-body there is Seals in every part of the hvac ducting

Thanx i ended up making a piece from aluminum flashing and foil tape. All set and defrost has strong airflow

Grab some foam weatherstripping from the hardware store.
