Chevy 12 bolt axle code I can't find

Bought a 12 Bolt rear end. I believe it's a 1976 Chevy. I can not find the axle code anywhere online. It's KDU W033 2.

Edit: I found the KDU part. 1974-1978 12 Bolt 3.40 gear non locking. Not sure what the W means or the 2.

Bummer this guy posted in August 2024 and never got any help. I found it trying to find our reference thread for axle codes. Only 3 posts. He didn't stick around long. Kinda sux, but I blame myself.

I just stopped asking questions and did more research. Frustrating when you want answers from fellow members, but it usually doesn't happen. Seems that unless the question is extremely vague, no replies, and I don't ask vague questions.

We've got new people now as regulars as we had way back then, so maybe noone knew this was here. I finally found what someone should have done for him. The Reference Library is a mess. So many threads that people have started in there that don't belond, has cluttered up the library so now you can't find jack $hit. I finally found it. Since it's such a mess, I moved and stickied the threads for decoding axles to the Diff category.

True, his question was easy.

My reply was more of a don't beat yourself up over it, there's a lot of unanswered questions on this site.

Some get butthurt and leave. Some find it without help of the forum, and either leave or stick around.

I've posted how to change link colors since it's not being changed from within the site.

The old regulars can't reply to every comment on here. I know I don't see every post, depends on how busy I am at the time. I come on here regularly.

Theres a few newer regulars that have joined the og's in regular replies, but not many. Some og's have left or just watch from afar and comment every once in a great while.

The problem is most people take the info and put nothing back into the forum. I won't say ungrateful but it's the best description. Grateful in the moment but not in the big picture sense. It happens, some guys only need one really random problem or question solved and never need to come back, and THATS FINE!

But the list of new members that give back are usually very low compared to the traffic on the site.

You're correct. Some come just to get 1 answer and gone for months or years until needed again and don't even come back to let you know what worked and what didn't. I totally get it. As said, I'll take the blame for it. I used to be able to check every thread and made sure everyone at least got a response. IIRC, this was over a year ago anyway. I just happen to have tripped over it and mentioned it. The other thing we are competing with is other social media platforms. But it's a fact, if people knew, they'd get much more detail info here.

Exactly. We do try though. Some just do fall through the cracks. As said, I used to be here much more often to see that every thread got an answer, even if it was We don't know, which is extremely rare. I always say, none of us know everything, but between all of us, we do know everything or where to get it.

I think activity and participation has been pretty good here. It hasn't fallen off, it's only increased. Many many forums have died off in the last 10 years and many others that had been very active are not very active anymore.

That's a fact. Social media killed many forums, but yet this one seems to keep on keepin on' and I don't think that's by accident either. We have some good people here and lots of square knowledge, with some good threads, even though some are duplicate threads, we don't get uptight about it and belittle people like many forums do. And when people "GOOGLE IT" Our threads do show up and that brings traffic and when they see how cool the place is, they sign up. I mean, it's not like it was, but it's far from failing. I see forums that are lucky to get 1 thread hit a day and it might get a response. We not only get thread hits, we get NEW threads daily with activity.

Not butt hurt, just making conversation and stating it's not perfect, but nothing is perfect. I personally don't ask many vehicle related questions anymore, and if I do I dumb it down to make it as vague as my brain allows because vague questions get more answers. At least that's what I've observed in 13 years. Tons of knowledge here, and it's great to have the resource.

it's bummer, some of used to be here every single day and checked in every so many hours.It's not that way anymore. used to everyone got an answer or at least an acknowledgment within an hour at the very least. And many times if whoever didnd't know, they knew who the goo roo was to send them to or to tag that would likley know. Now we have enough threads, I usually try to encourage them to go to a thread that has the answers or someone else who did it. But our links don't show up to good so I think they get missed. I send many people here with links from other social media platformes like Facebook. Someday ask a square question, I send them a link to here to a thread that should help them out and about 1/4 to 1'3 of them will sign up here and go back and mention that's a cool place, so others see that response and they'll come here to check it out. S0, even though I may not be here as often, I'd still sending people here as often as possible.
