Hey guys had my neighbor rebuild my edelbrock 1405 and add the electric choke to it. I know it has 12 volts but it doesn't seen to be working. Also once the truck is warm it idles nicely. Adjusted the accelerator pump to eliminate the acceleration stumble. However it bogs terribly in gear now. Won't do over about 15 mph and that at 1500rpm to keep it there. Any thoughts/ suggestions?

Ensure the float is set correctly. Best way to fix problems with Eddy carbs, is to replace them with Holley, Demon, Or Quadrajet.

Qjet all day here for the street ride... Holley for the track. You'd be amazed at the night n day diff a qjet will make over a new eddy

If you want to here are some things to check on your eddie;

Float level
idle circuit , set to highest vacum reading
choke , make sure after it's warmed up the choke plate is fully open
fuel pressure , eddie's dont like any more than 5 pounds pressure
accelerator pump arm , most eddie's should be on the last hole of the three , (closest one to the intake)

I am no eddie pro but I have messed with a few.

That holley you are looking at would be ok but you might have to jet it down a bit for a stock 305 , not sure dont mess with 305's much.

I think all around a q-jet would be best but they are pricey for a quality rebuilt one and they will get the best mileage for sure.

I am not a fan of eddie carbs , but if you want to save some money I would go though the eddie and see if you can work it out.

Thanks for the input. My 305 is not stock it's bored 30 over and got an aftermarket cam. I have the specs at home so we can get more technical later if needed. I just have never really trusted the eddy I think I might be better off just 86'n it. Maybe sell it on eBay.

That 600 will be perfect for a 305, considering all the Qjets were a minimum of 750.

Is your modulator hooked up on the trans? Sounds just like that other guy who was having serious bog in gear.

I will have to double check. That should be the big vac line off the rear of the carb if I remember correctly right?
