Damn, that mighta had the rear axle I needed too. 48in back plate to back plate, 6 lug and brakes. I'm thinking I may just get axles from one, then do the rear disk brake conversion and a Mico Park Brake E Lock.

8 lug.

I got to thinking about that swap again to use my 6 lug 10 bolt air locker. I have 2 14b SF 4.10 axles. Rather than spend the cash to buy 4.10 gears for my 10 bolt and use the Detroit locker I have, I've thought of spending the money on the axles from a GMT400 4x4, backing plates and brakes & drums instead, so I can still run my half ton 6 ton wheels but not have to worry about breaking the rear axle like I would the 10 bolt.

Which platform, or just stick with 350?
Assuming you can talk either of these guys down at least $50, maybe $100......?

Id rather just save up for a crate motor, but theres also the satisfaction of doing it yourself and watching it all come together.

That main girdle alone on the SBC 400 is worth the $350. Very common to need that in Olds motor for higher RPM due to the heavy rotating assembly.

That 383 is worth the $400 to if he really had all the done including the line bore. Line Bore alone is not cheap, but can cause other issues like loose timing chain depending on how much they took off. And WTF they painted the timing gasket area and the insdie the block, is about stupid. That orange paint will be coming off the motor and if not melted down in the oil or caught in the filter, will go thru the bearings. There are some paints you can use on motor interiorts, but I don't think exterior motor gloss is one of them.
