brake master cylinder upgrade???

Just wondering if anyone knows what it would take to upgrade from the clunky old cast iron brake master cylinder on my 81 k20 to one of those plastic resevoir ones?? . Is there one that just bolts on, if so what year do i ask for? or would i have to change the booster over ?? thanks in advance

There's really no reason to do that, the only reason the factory changed it was to save weight and cost.

It's usually the brake line fittings that determine if it's a bolt-on swap. If you have vacuum brakes, just try a cylinder for an '87 K20 with vacuum brakes. I think they had the aluminum cylinder by then.

thanks for that ! as much as Im opposed to plastic on my vehicles I hate having to get a screw driver of something to pry that knuckle busting lid retainer of and its also nice to see where the level is at plus the whole damn thing rusts so quick up here and as much as i dont like plastic I dont like rust even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, I also like to paint mine with cast gray for exhaust manifolds because it holds up well.

well thanks for the paint tip. I would of thought the brake fluid could possibly get contaminated as brake fluid brakes down so many paints You must leave a little border at the top?
