So I need to adjust the brake shoes on my 14 bolt 8 Lug rear axle.

1978 Chevy, but its not the stock axle.

So the left star goes up to tighten, and the right star goes down to tighten the brakes? Or?

From under the truck looking at the backing plate you need to go up on both sides, one half of each adjuster is right-handed the other left-handed, so you pry them up.

Are the adjustment levers not working when you back up?
