What's next

The TH400 has been rebuilt and is also getting a new torque converter
I just have to pick it up from the shop
I have a new u-joint, transmission dipstick, and a new remote cooler on the way
I am wanting to mount this under the truck and take the radiator cooler out of the loop
I am also concerned about garbage in the cooling system so I am going to add a coolant filter between the engine and heater core using This and This
I am also going to add an aux fuse panel in the truck for stereo and other accessories
I also have new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor
I need to service the diff
I need to diagnose why when you switch tanks to the RH side it dies and wont start up
Could be the pump, switch, wiring, or that valve that handles the switching
Need to go through the brakes
And it will need tires pretty quickly
And clean the filth off it
The wiring i think is going to be an on going battle
There is no real engine ground right now. There is a bolt tapped into the alternator bracket
I have a new 195 degree thermostat and gasket and when I change it out I am going to clean up the housing and add a ground from the thermostat housing to the battery
When I replaced the battery wires I used all 4 gauge wire
I upgraded the body ground to the core support and added a direct frame ground
I have new trailer wire harness and a new 7 blade/5 pin truck side connector coming

I am open to people adding things I need to check

Also something kinda special to me
My grand father had a square body extended cab that was red and maroon. When he passed away I was given some of his things.
a few I requested and some were just given to me. One of the things that was given to me was his CB radio from his old truck and the home station that grandma kept in the farm house kitchen.
When grandpa retired from farming and traded in the truck for a buick they also moved to town and the cb from the truck and the base radio ended up in storage in his basement storage room until it came to me.
That was a couple years go. When I got this I decided that I am going to put grandpa's old cb in this truck

You’re going to catch some eyes with the cb talk! Looks like you’re doing a great job. Keep posting the project.

That's awesome that you are using your Grand Father 's CB radio. Good job. That is going to be a fine Chevrolet.

I have my mother looking and checking with my aunts for any pics.
It was a dually and I know it was extended because we would be set behind the front bench but it wasnt a crew cab. He had a maroon camper top on it as well that we would crawl back into going down the road. It was a diesel but that is all I know for sure.

He had his farm sale in 87 and bought his car in 91. The truck went to one of my uncles and he and my aunt got a divorce so that truck is lost forever likely since he was known for not taking care of trucks and junking them and getting another.

Welcome from South Dakota. Nice start on your truck. My mom lives in Hendersonville, so I get down to the Nashville area quite often.

So waiting for parts to arrive so i didn't get much done this weekend.
I did clean up the gauges. Rubbing alcohol followed by plastic-X.
I still need to go back over them with alcohol and a microfiber.

I also cleaned up some wiring under the dash.
The brake controller appears to work. depressing the pedal moves the knob on the controller and activates the light. It is hydraulic and has a hard line ran to the back of it.

the red wire coming off the back appears to be the hot wire to the trailer brakes as when you press the pedal or use the manual brake it ramps up to 12v on the red wire.

It had no tape on it.

There also was another battery hot wire hanging down by the brake pedal that was hot with no tape.

the old head unit was dead after looking at the wiring i think the exposed wire on the 12v shorted killing it as the 10amp fuse in the back of the head unit was popped.

I picked up a cheap head unit from my buddies audio shop for now. not surprising they also had the speaker channels wrong so i had to hunt to find the right pairs for the right speakers.

I also found what looks like a new coil and a couple other parts i cant identify off hand.
