Beating dead horse.....you just end up with a bloody bat.

So I have decided to cab swap using a 79 cab. Only speaker hole up front is in the center of the dash.

Ok now that we all know what we already knew..... Throw some suggestions out there for speaker placement.

I will start with not going to be cutting holes in my door panels for 6x9's. I don't want anything I would have to shim out to keep from interfering with window movement.

A-Pillars don't seem to have much room to work with. Would have to remove windshield to get to top of dash to cut holes for 4" speakers on each end.

I've fabricated rear speaker brackets and slim fit sub box. It's the front area that I am contemplating.

There's no holes in the metal. I would have to cut regardless. I'm going to be keeping the 79 dash. It's a tach cluster with a immaculate dash pad

I'm thinking super thin 6" door speakers and maybe a set of 3.5" speakers in top of dash. Maybe take the opportunity to replace the windshield gasket.

My 86 has the holes on each end and in the center. I am in no hurry, I'm just brainstorming and looking for ideas. But once I get the new cab swapped over I am going to be ready to start putting things back together so I can drive it. Getting too many miles on my B2200 LOL

I'm against cutting into doors. But would if it was done right. Definitely not into adding weight and shimmed out speaker brackets.

The '80 and early trucks have the VIN plate in a different location than '81 and up that I think would interfer with dash speakers in the corners.

Forgot about that, I'll have to look at my 80 and see what the deal is there.

I'm not worried about no stinking VIN plate! LOL We are going to VIN swap the cabs anyways and keep the 1986 VIN that matches the frame. I have the rosette rivets to put the VIN plate back in and can always shift it if need be to make room for speaker. The VIN plate wont be any issue for me.

Anyone ever fabricated A-pillar speaker pods? Just thinking out loud.
