Just wondering if anyone ever scrapped a bare cab and in doing so, found out how much it weighed? My cab is stripped - no doors, interior, glass - nothing. Nak-id. If Ohiostan ever decides which month it wants to be, I will have it paint shortly and will need to set it back on the frame. Was wondering if its something 4 (bigger) guys could do?

I have a little squirly friend who will be underneath starting the mount bolts. heh heh

My dad and I back in 2018 carried the (rust enhanced cab) from the frame about 40 feet into a sprinter van, then carried it out for the van into the garage at home.

Neither of us are muscle men.

Could probably be done with 4 strong dudes... I'd guess it only weighs a few hundred pounds

You can add an easy handle to the rear by bolting a 2x4 down with the seat or seatbelt holes and it can extend a few feet past the sides of the cab.

IIRC for the front I used ratchet straps through the holes for the rear hood bolts (the ones on the cowl for the crash pins) and hung it from a support in the shop. The back side was supported by a 2x4 as described above, set the ends of the 2x4's on tables. Once the cab was hanging we pushed the chassis under and lowered the cab down on it. I rolled the chassis under using wheels without tires to keep it as low as possible.

I wonder how much stress the latch bolts or the door hinge bolts could take? Would be easy to make something to hold on to bolted there but I worry about tweaking the metal.

i think impact wise they can handle the forces but you would probably be wise to not want to deflect the weight of the cab on it
now shared between both of them at the same time, that may be a different story. if you did them both And used the bottom of the cab or the bottom of the roof/door frame, then you could probably safely get away with it if you used a cloth covered piece of lumber to span it

There’s not really an inner structure to the latch pin so I don’t think I’d use it, the hinges do have some heavy sheet metal and an inner structure supporting them and would probably hold up to simple lifting of the cab.

300 was the number I had heard before. I watched 2 guys on a YT vid (not real big guys either) pick one up and handle it pretty well. It needed floors so was welded up with all the cross support bars - they used them to hold onto it and said it took them about 20 min to set the cab on and get the mount bolts started.
