I got 2 axles out of the 87 Burb I scrapped. For some reason, 1 weighs quite a bit more than the other. Anyone know how to tell who the manufactuer is, or if it's maybe a chromolly shaft? I know the part # is a GM P/N 14039547, but many times Manufactures will use the same part # or at least stamp it with the GM part # for interchange purposes. This one has a 12808 stamped on it, and then the GM part # on the outside of the axle.

See the difference? I think this one is an OEM shaft.

Definitely different looking, you think it could be from a newer model 6-lug? Are the spline counts the same? Same length as your stockers?

Yes, they are the same size as stockers and same spline count. This is an axle out of that 10 bolt rear end that had an ARB Air Locker, then the PO changed it out to a Detroit Locker, and still had the ARB Air Locker up front. I'm actually thinking, if he spent that kind of scratch on the rear end, they may very well be Chromoly axles. If they are, I want to swap then with a rear end I'm keeping.

That first axle shaft for sure ain't stock. The second one looks closer to stock, but I don't think that one is stock either. Notice the numbers printed right on it.

Yep. I just wish there was tell tale way to know if it's chromolly or not. That 12808 # didn't help me any either.
