Someone sent me a link, just curious if its worth it.

Got some serious clear coat issues on Jethro.

It's a very finicky product from what I've heard/seen. Plenty of guys have no issues but there's alot of guys that have had issues with it lifting and taking what's left of the paint/old clear with it. I've talked to the owner/inventor of it and he says it's only meant for true patina trucks, like heavy patina/single stage. If your truck has clear on it, he doesn't recommend it. My truck was cleared at some point in the past and I have issues too so I asked him if I could use it. He said he would strongly recommend I not

I haven't talked to anyone who has personally used it, but have watched a dozen-plus videos about it (and Vice Grip Garage's version, Patina Preserver). I plan on using it on my old CUCV project truck when the time comes (I'm piecing together parts for it, but busy building our house at the moment).

Despite the surface rust, the truck body/floors are rock-solid, with the original black paint on the underside.

The problems with lifting paint are on a respray, not a problem if you have original paint, or a lacquer repaint.

Thanks,

That's odd because I watched an official Poppy Patina YouTube video and they are demonstrating this on an old Lexus with pealing clear coat???

CARC paint! Great stuff. Please don't breath it if you sand on it...bad stuff.

Maybe they've come out with a new product since I spoke with him. He's an actual chemist so he's always experimenting

I Used it on a 2 tone 1982 GMC classic Sierra and it turned out well enough. It’s certainly not as durable or long lasting as a paint job. I used the gloss and I thought it really made my old paint pop. However it needs to be done at the correct temp and in the shade. I had neither as I’m from Arizona and did it at night when it was still too hot. It did streak a little and it left a small almost unnoticeable ridges across the hood. But your out comes depends on your prep and patience.

Thinking a blow torch, acid and a winter in MN could produce similar results.

Yes, sir. I've had a couple military Jeep CJ-10as and a military trailer, so I'm familiar with the CARC paint. Thanks for the safety warning...well-justified!
