Ok I found the Ammeter replacement with a volt meter gauge discussion. But the person removed the ammeter and installed the voltage meter but wired it to the power and ground of the water temp gauge. I get it, but wouldn't it be easier to re-pin wires in my case a 73 year model; pins 105 and 106 on the gauge cluster connector to a key on ignition source and a ground? Looking at the schematic 105 is 4amp fused ground to the starter solenoid. 106 is the same 4amp fused to the engine side firewall fusible link. Somehow pin 25 looks to be load off the alternator going to pin 25 of the gauge cluster connector. We also get power to pins 39 of the cluster connector from pin 3. I'm assuming one pin is for the cluster lights and one is for the gauges. In my case doing a swap I don't need the 105, 106 connections at all.

@hoagster , we just did the swap a month ago. Never wanted to go to that much trouble is why we did it by stealing power from the temp gauge. It was super easy and I did not have to take out cluster which I hope I never have to do again!!

Yea, I decided to do the same thing. instead of digging into the cluster plug. need some model paint for the orange needles but don't think i will go that far. Not sure if I'm going to keep it in the long run.
