I won't even tell anyone I aquired one of those 2 piece timing covers, and I do beleive it trashed it cuz I didn't want to have to buy the proprietary gaskets for it. Never know, I may have saved it around here somewhere, but I am thinking I trashed it. I sure liked the idea though for a quick cam swap.

Well, I decided to go ahead and baby this thing for another few weeks....That should give me time to get my new cam/lifters and timing chain ordered. Figured might as well be safe and replace that **** as well..:)..Have a buddy that said he would do it out at his shop when he gets some other stuff out of the way....
I can get a good deal on an Elgin E1785PM cam/lifters...(supposed to be like the old school Crane 274H06 cams)....Not sure what I really want yet. Whatever cam I go with, I'm going to upgrade the valve springs as well...IIRC, the stock valve springs can handle around .450 lift, but some Z-28 springs would be cheap insurance....
Open to any opinions/suggestions on cam choice...This is going to be a low-budget upgrade, so I can't really afford anything crazy...:)

It's fun as long as something doesn't go together wrong or timed wrong, lol. I used to hate trying to line the marks up on the timing chain & gears.

This brings back a memory, make sure you have a good lifter removal tool. Sometimes if those lifters got enough miles on them they tend to mushroom on the end, making them very difficult or near impossible to get out of the bores. A few times I have had to or seen the lifters had to be dropped into the oil pan and remove the pan and count them to make sure they all made it out, lmao! I was afraid to force them out of the bores and damage the bores. Anybody else ever have that situation?

Another tip I thought I would add.... Get a couple little pieces of wire and tie the timing chain to your gears. You probably knew that anyways though...
