So since I am removing the A/C equipment off my Burb I am thinking of possibilities of modding the 4 A/C vents in the dash to something usefull, like maybe a storge pocket, or a cup holder, 12V power terminal, etc..

What really has the gears turning in my head is modding the vent that is above the heater controls into and additional area for some mini guages that would kinf of match the layout of the other guages, like a mini tach and a clock or something like that.

Retro, I know you would have some great ideas for this. :005:

I will have to get the dimensions of the vent holes to see what we have to work with.

I dont know if I would like that in the ashtray. Seems like bumps would spill the drinks if the door moves up and down any. But if you could retrofit it to a vent you're eliminating and secure it good, that might be a better option. A GPS might be a nice option too.

I would take the one out just above the ash tray, take something and seal off the bottom, (fiber glass, or some wire mesh) and turn it into a holder for like a Cell phone or I-pod something like that. The one just right of the steering wheel, I would put my gauges, or something like that there.

The dimensions of 3 of the AC vent openings are 1 3/4" high by 5" wide.

The 4th vent by the drivers left knee is 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".

Here are pics of each one:

Yeah, that is what I meant was to retro fit that to a vent. :waytogo:

I know, you could connect those holes in your dash to a fan that supplies cold air in the summer! No, wait a minute, that would never work....LOL Get something different, like a pair of vacuum gauges, or an exhaust pyrometer. Everybody and his brother has the trifecta of oil pressure, water temp, voltmeter in the dash (including yours truly)

A 0-4000 tach that I can fit into one of those holes is on the top of my list. And a 12 volt socket station with a iPod holder and speaker jack in the middle vent, maybe a storage spot on the left knee vent, and on the far right passenger vent, maybe a cup holder or storage there.

I remember my '79 C-10 had a built in storage pod ath the left knee vent. I might start looking for one of those intstrument covers. :hmm:
