So since I am removing the A/C equipment off my Burb I am thinking of possibilities of modding the 4 A/C vents in the dash to something usefull, like maybe a storge pocket, or a cup holder, 12V power terminal, etc..

What really has the gears turning in my head is modding the vent that is above the heater controls into and additional area for some mini guages that would kinf of match the layout of the other guages, like a mini tach and a clock or something like that.

Retro, I know you would have some great ideas for this. :005:

So really???? You have no intent of ever having AC on it again?

Yeah, I guess you could do that. You know the time will come when you have another daily driver someday. Then you can keep the Burb for your off-road toy and back up vehicle.

I can live without A/C in the turck. I don't even use the vents for fresh air, just the heater and defrost. And much of the A/C system is rotted and clogged and would be very expensive to replace since it is the 2 part system. I had it checked out by my mechanic when I bought the truck, he ran dye through it and said there was pinhole leaks throught the entire system and hoses, and the compressor wasn't in the best of shape.

It would be cheaper if I ever decided I really needed the A/C to buy an aftermarket under dash system, and if I did that I would not need the original vents for that anyway.

I just stick that little 12V oscillating fan in the truck in the summer and that is good enough for me. And I got's 4/60 A/C bult into the truck.

You don't have 4/60 until you get those window switches figured out.

We just went through the wiring not long ago in another thread, buddy...

http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1924&highlight=tach

Factory or aftermarket?

Either one is going to pretty much be the same. Most aftermarket tachs have 4 wires, white, black, green and red.

Red: 12+
Black: ground
Green: distributor - most caps are marked "TACH" and that's where you plug it in.
White: illumination - to the dash lights.

As Quoted !!!

No, just wanted to make it back to a gmc again. So all I have to do is swap out the dash badge. Any clue how to remove that trim piece?

If the badge is on the right side of the dash there there are stamped nuts on the back side, you can access by pulling the glove box off.

Can you get me a pic of the AC vent there to the right of the steering wheel? I would like to look that mod over you got there, are they gauges?

Here's a better shot. The only thing I don't like, is it leaves two blanks in the gauge cluster, and the panel it's self doesn't attach in the upper right corner. I'm going to pull the instrument panel off to see why.
