Anybody have details on whats involved to swap it out for a new one? I'm getting ready to convert from r12 to r134, and have basically replaced all other components(compressor, condenser, dryer) with new ones. The evaporator is the only original component in the system from 86.

Unless you have obvious evidence that it is leaking, just leave it in place. There is no need to replace the evap coil unless the former A/C system died violently (i.e. from Black Death).

Just blow it out with compressed air to expel as much of the old oil as you can. Squirt some acetone into the coil to help break up the residue and then blow air in both directions.

That's right. If it's not leaking I'd use it. Most guys do a chemical flush first before a conversion anyway.
