The motor is the 2.8 it had just been rebuilt before bought the truck. Before I pulled it I put a new battery in it and poured a little gas in the carb and it fired up first try. A guy at my work is buying the old stuff. I ordered the roll pan off of eBay for $75 with free shipping, it turned out pretty good.

Yes, a major POS I had the pleasure of owning once...

Easy there fellas, don't lump all the 2.8's in with those those wheezy S10 motors. The carbed HO's and the multiport 2.8's were fine motors and have a fair amount of pep in their step. The S10 just never got those.

You're reffering to the 2.8 MFI motors that were used in FWD cars. Any RWD 2.8 was JUNK !!! Lacking power, overheating, head gasket blowin pieces of ****, PERIOD !!!

my rwd camaro had a 2.8 and it was mpfi and it would run, it had tons of pep, and never had any problems. The s-10 2.8's sucked though.

I drove the wheels off my 93 s-10 and never had any of those issues. It was just slow as a slug so I'll have to disagree here

Ahh, forgot about that ERA in the Camaro.

Old77 would be the first for me to say a truck 2.8 didn't have problems other than being a slug. Although, he did say his was a 93. I dealt with them in the early to late 80's. Never worked on a 90 or later model. Maybe they improved. STill a scrap motor IMO. The 3.1 was quite a bit better but still had issues, and the 3.4 was actually quite peppy and still had the upper intake manifold gasket issues.

An old boss had a 2.8 MPFI 5 speed Camaro........It would run circles around my 305 TPI IROC...This was the boss that had never seen a TPI engine and a 1988 IROC, not the '85 that was embarrassed by a 3 cylinder...

Well guys I stayed up all night working on the s10 and got a lot done. I finished welding the gas door, shaved the antenna hole, and shaved the handle on the tailgate. I also finished gutting the engine compartment and pulled the old tank brackets off the frame. Here are some pics of the shaving process of the tailgate and antenna hole.

I also pulled all of the old wiring harness out, the harness was melted behind the fuse box. I found a kit I'm going to order Friday. Wasn't planning on replacing it but better to replace it now, than have to put out a fire later.

Damn, you do good work. I know I could do that kind of body work if I could work with someone for a half day or so to build some confidence and get some pointers on technique. I wish I had someone very local in the middle of a project like that where I could go help in person for a few hours. :waytogo:
