'85 wipers, new motor, thought the old motor was weak, installed new and same results. Have to manually assist to swing over windshield. I can remove the wipers and operation "appears correct". Any ideas?

It could be the mechanical linkage has a problem. With wipers on, listen to motor to gauge how fast it's turning. Then do the same with the motor disconnected from the mechanical linkage.

You may first want to check voltage at the wiper motor to make sure it's only a few tenths less than battery voltage. Poor connections can cause a "voltage drop" meaning the motor is not getting full voltage.

Wiper linkage binding or in need of lubricating. Luckily when my wipers wentout, it was a badly worn motor. The linkage must connect to the motor correctly in phase or it will bind up as well.
