Hey there all,
First time poster. I've read so many of the posts over the past few months after finding this site! This is my latest project. First one was a 79 C20 in high school, next was an 85 Suburban after a couple kids, and now this 82 Blazer.
It was a POS when I bought it 2 years ago. It had not been registered for 15 years due to the previous owner "paying his debt to society". I picked it up for $1200 with the understanding that it ran. It did actually run, but I bought it knowing it was going to be a project. 2 of the rotten tires blew just getting it on the trailer. When I pulled up in front of the house with it, my wife asked me to quickly get it into the garage. I started an immediate tear down. Here is a partial list of what I have replaced: the back window (broken) and motor (that was quite an experience). All the body mounts, shocks, brakes, pretty much the entire interior (still have to do the door panels), Amazingly the original seat material was perfect (although I did replace the foam). Under the hood I dropped in a crate 350 and rebuilt the 770r4. Then it was on to the exterior... I salvaged and rehabbed as much of the chrome as I could, but had to replace the front bumper, grille trim, and side trim. I still have to get the emblems for the front fenders and rear quarters.
I did all of the body work myself, sanding, priming, resanding, then paint. It was repainted once before and the interior color seemed to match what the exterior used to be. The interior painted areas were in great shape, so I just color matched it for the exterior. It was all one color when I got it, but I always liked the white tops, so that's what I went with on the repaint.
Most of what is needing to be done now is emblems, door panels, and the big area that a lot of square owners seem to mention - the Heat and A/C system. Mine seems to blow warm air even when set on cold. I've readjusted the control behind the glovebox so that it runs the full distance, but still warm air. I probably need to take out the entire system and give it a good cleaning.
