i am buying the adapter kit to put a turbo 350 in my truck but what i am wondering about is will the 350 work in place of the 700r4 because of the electrical sensors? like the speed sensor etc. any help is appreciated greatly!

Not sure why you want to get rid of the 700 r4. But yes, there will probably be an issue with the speed ometer. There may be some aftermarket parts to correct the problem, not sure.

ha not me, never had a good one seen no use in having one, around here too many hills to climb to make any real use of od, unless you have tall gears then maybe, but they just all seem way too weak. All we had were just sluggish and soggy. The tv cables never adjusted as they should either.

lower first gear ratio is the only good thing I can think of on them.

if I ever had a nicely modified one I might change my mind.

I've done a lot of pulling with mine since it was new. Race cars, small tractor, gravel, ect. Never a minutes trouble. I had it rebuilt about 7 yrs ago. That was because I added about twice as much hp to it. Been performing flawless. Turns them over a couple times between 1st and 2nd and barks sometimes when it shifts to 3rd if you really have your foot in it. So I have no complaints.

I don't know how much truth is to it, but my tranny man said that the 92 was one of the best years for the 700r4. He was probably just pulling my chain.

If you have an 87', the VSS is in the speedometer cluster, driven by the cable, so swapping in a TH350 will be no problem. A 9" tailshaft TH350 will swap directly in place of a 700R4, same driveshaft and everything. Just leave the TCC connector unplugged, it will be fine. You will need a different dipstick, TH350 and 700R4 have the dipstick in a different location on the trans. You will have to move your transmission crossmember, but can use the same mount. The holes should already be drilled in the frame. I think that's really it.

I speak from experience, just did this swap on my 84', which has a full 87' TBI drivetrain in it (fuel injected and all).

ok thanks guys i appreciate the help! the reason im switching is because i traded a four wheeler for the truck and the guy i traded to gave me a freshly rebuilt th350 to go in place of the 700r4 because its burned up. i dont think he knew what tranny was in it to begin with and just bought one that someone told him to get. which i would much rather have the 350 because they are cheaper to rebuild and im just building a weekend mud truck. anyways i just decided to buy the advanced adapters kit so i could use the one he gave me and not have anything rebuilt. so far ive got 200$ in the kit and 75 in the guy thats putting the shaft in for me plus 60 for a new torque converter so i feel like im coming out cheaper than having the 700r4 rebuilt. and yes its an 87 v10

Under those circumstances, I don't blame you. Your right, it would be way more expensive to have the 700r4 rebuilt.

I don't think vss would control your idle I'd think something else is making your idle high, vac. leaks or sensor etc. so being 87 it's tbi right?
