Good morning. I have a 700R4 that has had the numbers ground off. I'm assuming that the driver's side metal tag on the tranny indicates a rebuild. Is there a way to decide this tag.
Top of tag reads: MD M1
Bottom of tag:
Left side: 6204
Right side: 13563
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I have rebuilt 700R4's that look like the #'s were ground down. After a clean and closer look. The #'s were still there. Just saying. (Rear pass side) I have heard of rebuilder's doing that though. The only other way to tell the difference is knowledge. building enough of them you can tell the difference outside from 82/87 (stay away) and 88/93 had a rainbow above the cooling lines and auxillary valvebody

Thank you for the input. Need to go find a rainbow... hopefully.

Somewhat... enough to order a torque converter. So hopefully, I'll have the crate engine swapped in by the end of the week.
