Hey fairly new to this forum, hoping some of the experience on this site can help me out. I think my problem lies in the transmission. My problem is that no power comes on the output shaft. I pulled the trans and this is what I've found. The only gear the output shaft locks on is park, all other gears it can spin without the input shaft moving. Also the transfer case still locks into four so I don't think the problem is there. When I drained the fluid it had a slight metallic sheen but no large metal pieces so I don't know if that indicates that it's burned out or still good. When I pulled it the torque converter was making a clicker noise as it spun so I think that might be the problem I'm not sure. If anyone knows of ways to test a converter to see if it's bad or has any info at all it would be much appreciated.

Your output acts as it should. However, if the trans doesn't work and the fluid has any type of metallic particles in it, then the trans is toast.

Would not having the tv cable correctly set cause it to burn out? The guy who owns the truck rebuilt the trans about 5000 miles ago

It *could* have something to do with it. A failed lockup function could have hurt it too. But I've seen a lot of rebuilt 700r4's fail, just depends on who is the one rebuilding it.

Since I've heard a lot of bad about the 700r4 I don't think its really worth putting back in. So how hard is it to change to a th400? It's in a 1986 k10
It was a 700r4 with a np208 but I'm looking to change to a th400 with a np205

Th400 with a 208 is a direct swap. But with a 205 you need to address the shaft lengths and probably relocate the crossmember. And depending on how your exhaust is routed, you may get some interference there.

Nevermind about relocating the crossmember, it should be the same location still I think. But depending on the style of adapter, you may need a different crossmember.
