454 Oil Pan

There was a very embarrassing moment and i now need a new oil pan for my 454 Big Block for my 1980 GMC C2500. Best place to get them? Also, LMC doesn't have my year, unless of course it falls under another category. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

as long as no judgemet occurs. frankly i'm taking it pretty hard, being the original oil pan and all that

so last spring when i changed the oil for the first time since ownership, i was taking the plug off with one of my dad's 1/4" ratchets. Little did i know, that his ratchets "ON AND OFF" were backwards compared to what i had at work, so yeah it was tight and i'm thinking, "ah it's been a while" and then i stripped the pan tightening it to death instead of loosening. When i had realized it was too late. End of story. Somehow i managed to get the plug in enough afterwards (don't ask) and i dreaded the next oil change, which was today, and it just ain't gonna cut it. Highly, HIGHLY pissed off about it. One dumb little moment is all it takes. SO anyway, i was hoping to drive it next week when the weather was nice, thus the fresh oil change for the spring/summer but it went downhill. Need a good oil pan ASAP

Weld a bung in the old pan and use a pipe plug. Would make it usable until you find an appropriate replacement if you still wanted one!

i'm pretty set on getting a new pan overall, plus i really wouldn't mind looking at the motor's undercarriage with the pan off. the main thing i'm wondering is is the 73-74 454 option in LMC above going to be the same for my 80? Is that why the 80 isn't an option?

They sell oversized drain plugs for fixing stripped plug threads. They cut the thread a little bigger the first time you run it in and you’re good to go. Or they have ones that a bigger plug threads in then there’s a smaller one that comes out the center. Called piggy-back plugs sometimes. There’s also repair kits for around $20 on Amazon I’ve never used them before though.

My question, can you even remove the pan without lifting the engine out of the cradle? Four wheel drive no problem, but this 454 is in the C2500?

I also would recommend a repair.

I had done c1500 oil pan by moving motor mount stands while holding the engine up with blocks of wood. Was not fun. But better than on el camino, had to tilt everything with trans unbolted to get clearance

Someone installed a car engine in my truck at some point. When I got the new GM crate motor that pan would not fit the pick up. I got this truck pan from Assault Racing. $52.02
