Hey guys, I'm new here and just bought a 85 K15. Was offered a 2010 GMC 2500 with a 6.2L gas pot for $500.00. The cab got crushed by a track conveyor but the engine and drive train is sound and complete. Approx. 75,000 miles on it. Before I accept and buy the 2010, I'd like to know if its easy to do a engine swap since I'll have the entire truck so I will have all the wires, harnesses, sensors, brackets etc. or would it be too much nickle and diming trying to get it to fit? Thanks in advance.

It's a great start for sure. If it has the 6 speed auto you may have issues matting it up to the transfer case unless you put in an NP205. If you didn't remove the valve covers, intake, oil pan, used same spark plugs/wire your looking at around $900.

That price also includes you doing the harness, an initial programming of the ECM, a new fuel tank with baffle, sending unit/pump/pressure regulator, and paying someone to match up your exhaust to the new manifolds.

Regarding the NP205, you have parts on the truck you can sell/trade that you don't need so you can go buy one.

Each vehicle is different and you may have some stuff laying around, and maybe you can weld your own exhaust.

If it was running great prior to the accident, I'd grab it in a heart beat. I paid $1,000 for a 2006 5.3 engine/trans, harness, all sensors pedal etc with ~106k miles (forget how many it has lol)....and I consider that a deal. Let alone a 6.2.

If anything buy it and part it out. You'll make your money back 4 fold just with the engine/trans. I really wish I was in your situation LOL.

I'm sure someone else will chime in on this one.

pics would be nice as well so we can see what all damage there is.

Let me edit that price. That price would be with a 4l60 not a 6l80.

Here are the three I have. The truck was our work truck and was in top running shape when it had the accident. There is no damage to any running parts, just body, cab, box... but not worth our company to repair.

500 bucks is a steal! I agree, even if you decide not to do the swap, it looks like there is good profit to be made.
