I did search1st so sorry if I missed the answer.

Truck is 1977 2wd stepside (originally sold in Canada if that matters for safety items)

I want to replace my frayed seatbelts. Issue I'm having every single replacement I've seen online has the bolt hole for the retractor parallel to the belt. The oem belts have the retractor 90 degrees to the belt. The retractor bolts into the door frame above the door striker stop (metal post thingy) and sticks out into the cabin so the retractor is parallel to the upper anchor.

For all the replacements I've found there is no way to mount using the existing hole - I'd have to chop up the plastic b panel cover plus the belt would be twisted.

Hopefully attaching pic of oem retractor. This is all one piece, I can't separate the mount from the retractor. Also the hook at the top goes behind the sheet metal on inside of b pillar.

Any ideas wise people?

Omg figured out my issue. My oem 3 point belts used 2 retractors - 1 floor mounted and 1 mid b pillar mounted. I'm guessing this was a list minute retro fit of lap belts to make them 3 point belts.

New belt has a single retractor and runs from floor up to b pillar shoulder anchor.

Sorry admins, please delete if this post had no value or add somewhere in case someone else might have this issue.

The US trucks the retractor mounts on the floor just inside the door opening at the rear of the seat and the loop mounts on the pillar there is a nut welded on the inside of the layers of sheet metal, if it has the plastic trim it is probably behind it and just no hole in the plastic. Mine are aftermarket so it uses a bracket so it can be used in other applications by changing the supplied bracketry. The stock ones mounted in the same places and the floor bracket was part of the retractor. The assembly you have pictured I've never seen used in a square body, if it is stock to your truck, it must be a Canada thing, but I don't see why they would have a different setup.

Not sure when they went to 3 points and did away with just lap belts but are you sure yours was not lap belt originally and modded to 3 points.

That is what I was thinking was going on but wasn't sure. As my 77 had 3 points as did my 82 and so does my current 78.

Late 1970s–1980s: Three‑point harnesses became the standard factory option on most Chevy trucks, and lap belts were phased out as the primary restraint system

So late 70s were the transitional years.

Can't say for sure if they were modified lap belts but Google tells me Canada started making 3 point mandatory 1976, so this may have a been a lapbelt truck built in USA then dealer modified to sell here, or some variation on that.

Good news is there is a solution, just need to get some brackets for the floor, sounds like my mechanic has some on a shelf.

Thanks for the additional info xm20k.
