And looks like im building it.

64 c10, shortbed stepside, fiverglass cowl hood, little rust, no motor or trans.

He bought a running 350 and th350 from a friend. It wont have an intake. I have one for it. Probably wont have exhaust. Can get that. Gonna have to make a crossmemver for the trans. Uts got rhe original DS and itll have to be shortened probably. Rear end has the cover off and is bone dry....looks like they welded up somw gears???? I have a 3.73 posi later model axle i can weld the correct perches on and install.

Found 4 used tires for it. Got the wheels off it tpday to have them insfalled. It has the original tiny radiator. Thing is like 18" wide.

Pics in a sec

Is that radiator big enough to cool a 350 engine? Whats up with the gears in the diff?

The welded gears are sometimes called a "Lincoln Locker" as in Lincoln welder. Very cheap way to get a locked diff, also very hard on the diff. Probably marginally ok for a pure drag racer but will be havoc on the street.

It looks like a sad attempt at a welded diff. The picture isn't that great, but it looks like the just welded between two teeth on the spider gears which doesn't seem like good sence or it would hold very long.

Looks like a cool project and at least your bro has some of his own money invested. I'd go bigger if possible on that radiator. I'd also ditch the cowl hood. Just doesn't match that body style at all IMO.

That radiator looks a little small for a 350. The one from my '65 came stock as a 4-row and from memory, is bigger than the one you have, but my truck also came with factory air. You can get a decent one from LMC. I believe the one I got from them was a brass radiator, but that was a few years back, so they may not have those now, not sure. I can measure my radiator for a measurement if you'd like?

Looks like a good truck to build. I agree with Old77, that hood needs to go.

Thanks guys, yeah its nice building on his money for once. He brought me $240 today with ehich i bought 4 drums, front and rear shoes, all 4 wheel cylinders, and rubber brake lines for the front. Also bought a front and rear drum brake hardware kit.

Took about 30 minutes to get the drivers drum off, then took another 30 chiseling the baked on grease pff all rhe parts. Then wire wheeled the hell out of it all. Left the balljoints and tierods stock for now. Got the drivers side front completely done. Next is the pass front.

Also disassembled the heater core box and cleaned it all up, put some ospho on the rust and transferred the old fan to the new blower motor i bought. Also have a original heater core i had redone that will go back in.

I bought a new master cylinder ehich is just a single chamber, but then realized i should buy a dual chamber one off a 67-70 and run two separate lines to front and back. That way of a line busts then i still have one set of brakes.

As far as the rear brakes...im still on the fence. The rear end in the 64 is ruined. I can get USED innerds for$200 but rhen i still need bearings and races....so i figure ill just replace the axle. Well it has the trailing arm setup so the perches are mounted different which is no big deal, i can get them for $40 online. Then cut off the huge panhard bar bracket and re weld it to my donor axle, which is a axle out of a 73-80 4x4 beat i can tell, 12 bolt, 6 lug, 3.73 posi.

My problem is that 3.73's is too much gear for this truck with a th350. He needs something more like a 2.73 or 3.08 for mileage.

My dads 86 c10 has a good rear axle, one wheel peel and im sure its either a 2.73 or close...im wondering if i can remove his rear end out of his truck, swap the 5 lug shafts he has into this 80 model 12 bolt rear...and put the 6 lug shafts from the 12 bolt ihave into his (10 bolt?) Rear....

Are the shafts from the 73-80 4x4 12 bolt axles rhe same spline and length as the 81-87 10 bolt rear end shafts..that is the quesrion...

finished up the front brakes. Installed a master cylinder out of a 68 pick up with the dual cylinders. Pulled all the old resting lines out and ran complete new lines to front am back. Next is prepping the axle to go in the back

Man your a kick ass big brother. I hope he appreciates you. I wish my little brother was interested in more than getting hammered and chasing tail. He ran off the other day and joined the Marine Corps so maybe he will come back less of a pain in the ass. Keep the pics coming.
