Hey everybody it's been a long time since o have posted on here and was wondering if I could get some help on this. I have a 1986 Silverado lwb with a 305/350C. The distributor is an HEI but has another plug on it. I'm thinking the distributor is going out because it constantly changes timing and sometimes shuts itself off! I'd like to swap to a standard HEI but I was told that harness controls the transmission... Any help would be much appreciated

It's for the electronic controlled timing. A standard HEI will work fine in it's place.

So it won't hurt to change it and not plug it back in?

Hey 72Chevy2door,
I barrowed your picture when I had a ICM problem wiith my 86 w/HEI. Anyway, mine runs great with that plug unplugged and sounds like a shot gun going off when it is plugged in. I have only had the truck about two weeks, so still trying to figure everything out.

I know I probably didnt help much, but thought I would chime in and let you know about my truck.

I wonder why it does that. But feel free to chime in. It helps us all learn how to fix our trucks. I don't mind it at all.
