Picked her up for $900.00. No motor or trans, but in hella good shape for it's age. Yeah, little rot on the hood, bottoms of the doors and such. But otherwise, no real damage. New gas tank behind the seat. Spare tire holder still there. Kid drove it a few years ago for about a year to a local college. Radiator burst and engine overheated. 3 on the tree setup. Tomorrow I'll take better pics to show it's straightness and lack of general body damage. After I clean it up. Very solid 65. Stay tuned...

Good score dude!

The looks like surface rust unless its all the way through the panel, by the pictures it looks to be very rust free.

I will definetly keep an eye on this thread.

Oh man, I really miss the 65 short wide I had in HS. I went thru motors in that truck like ti was cool. It was my weekend toy and my Highschool transportation on good days. ended up with a pretty wild 427 adn a muncie 4 speed side loader. 410 gears with front disk brakes. Was the fastest vehicle in my home town for many years. Ended up selling ti when i was away in the USMC. God i miss that old truck.

Thanks, Im in the Beaumont area, Hour east of houston and 4 hrs southeast of dallas fort worth.

Well, the paint looked shiny when it was wet haha.

Ive never seen so much grease hardened and caked on even this old of a truck. Screwdriver and the steam washer did the trick

Also forgot to mention that the guy said the whole truck had been re-wired. I looked under the dash and sure enough a new fusebox and all new wiring. That makes me happy. I might clean it up a bit though.

Im wondering what engine/trans combo I should put in here? I have several 350's that could be built...I'd have to buy a trans. I thought about LS style stuff but I'd rather it be original for the time period, or at least not a newer style engine.

I have a 305 V6 out of my last '64 suburban, thing was a torque monster but needs rebuilding and doesnt get good on gas. Thre purpose of this truck will just be to cruise around in I guess. Should I go 350/700r?

I'd personally choose 350/700r4 but I could also be talked into an I6 of the 292 or 235 variety for something like this :)

guy said he bought it from someone that had put in a 305 v8 but said it came facto with a 6 cyl. also, its a 3 on the tree design...

ALso forgot to mention, Im happy to see that there is no rot through on the top of the roof, or under the drip lines either. Thats a common area for rot...

Yeah, it definitely looks very solid and straight!! :waytogo: You've got a gem there that is for sure :) I believe most trucks of that era did come with the I6. Very few were v8's if I remember my facts right

you are correct sir. Might be worth it to track down an original style engine and trans, rebuild them and install them
