Hey guys i just got finished in putting my 14 bolt ff together and into my k20 and i have a concern.

When i put the drums back on i out the locking nut back in along with that tabed llocking thing along with the next locking nut. I have the concern of i didnt put them in right.

The inner lock nut i put tight and then backed it off about 1/4 turn, and then installed the locking tab and the last nut and bent the tab over. AFter this the drums spin nicly. ( didnt adjust brakes yet)

My other concern is when i took my axle apart i did not see a key for the key slot on the spindle.. Do some 14 bolts not come with them? or should i go get one.

Thanks
guys

Liam

I believe that the notch is for the first washer and lock ring, they should have a matching notch so they don't spin. So should be flat washer first then one of the nuts then tab ring then last nut and fold the tabs over the last nut.

I know that the locking tab does have a inner tab that fits into that key way slot but i dont have keys for the axle. I have been told that they are "optional" for some years but its just werid. I do have the axle together but i could pop the axles out if nessary

There are no keys used for the lock nut set that uses 2 nuts, keys are only used on the single nut design. All housings have the key way in the spindle for either the washer or actual key depending on which style you're using. This is an early vs late design thing, not a right or wrong.

I too have seen the bend tabs on the K 1500 qnd 2500 models,I would then follow the same procedure for the adjustments as prescribed then bend the ears.
