Looks like I am going to be rebuilding a 14 bolt 10.5 to swap into my truck since my 9.5 rear has grenaded the gov lok and is on borrowed time. What is everyone's choice for a posi/locker? I am looking at the true trac since it is kind of the gold standard, but am also tempted by some of the offerings from powertrax like the Grip Pro and the No-slip traction system. I dont really want to go to the trouble of regearing the axle and not put in a good traction aid.

Pic of some of the gov lok carnage I removed from my 9.5, which surprisingly still works and really isnt noticeably noisy.

Depends on the usage of the truck but I like my Yukon Duragrips alot, got one in each truck, they're clutch type. The C10's has withstood 60k miles of hard driving/mtn runs, burnouts, donuts, etc and still grabs like it's brand new. I also put one in my '05 Z71 when I regeared it 4.56, it's on 35s and is my daily but does go offroad occasionally and works around the property. It's not even a year old yet but it grabs very well in that truck too, squeels the inside tire just about every time I take off around a turn lol

I just put in a Trutrac this summer, replacing the clutch posi that was in it. I'm loving it.

You should be aware that the donor 14BFF is NOT a gov-lock currently. The Carrier assemblies vary greatly between the gov-lock and non-gov lock for the 14BFF and most aftermarket systems will only fit on the open diff carrier. I have a Yukon grizzly locker on mine and I like it. If you do more road driving than offroad, I would look at the truetrak or the Yukon Duragrip. If you do more offroading, then the detroit locker or yukon grizzly are good options. I would NOT recommend a locker if you have a manual trans, some poeple report lots of vibration with a manual trans that seems to be not there with an automatic.

TruTrac diffs for me, front & rear, no re-gear, just bearing /seals.
So far couldn't be happier.

Fwiw, the Detroit Locker experience I mentioned above was the same locker in 2 different axles and one of the trucks changed between manual and automatic transmissions a few times over 15 years.

With a manual transmission I felt the locker locking and (occasionally) unlocking more than with the automatic but it never caused a vibration.

I'd feel much better too if someone removed that from my rear end....

Pulled the cover on my spare 14 bolt. I believe this is an open carrier can one of you more experienced guys confirm? Also included the ring gear numbers showing factory 3.21 for the 14 bolt.

Yes, typical open carrier BUT do some research if you plan a gear ratio swap because I'm not sure if the 3.21 carrier is the same as 3.73/4.10 carrier or the 4.56+ carriers.
