    85 K10 383 4 Sale!

I will get some pics up ASAP as it sits currently. It really hasn't changed any cosmetically (which is a good thing) The problem it has currently is electrical. The years of jury-rigging and band-aiding have finally caught up to her and I can't seem to get it working properly by further...

    85 K10 383 4 Sale!

My truck is for sale, it has suffered a series of debilitating electrical failures over the last few months and I am simply tired of fighting with it. The motor is basically new, with less than 3K on it since install. I will post some recent photos in the next day or so. I would like to get...

    A/C Vent Modding Talk

I know, you could connect those holes in your dash to a fan that supplies cold air in the summer! No, wait a minute, that would never work....LOL Get something different, like a pair of vacuum gauges, or an exhaust pyrometer. Everybody and his brother has the trifecta of oil pressure, water...

    What's Squarebody Worth?

I'll sell you mine Dave. It only needs everything, except a motor which works perfectly. Oh and there is absolutely no chance it will pass VA inspection, or smog. Wait, I'm not doing a very good job of selling here am I? LOL

    Are crate motors really cheaper?

If you are rebuilding to stock specs you might as well do it yourself Iman. But you will be constantly tempted to wander off the path into higher performance. The SBC is simply so easy (and cheap) to build up that it will be very difficult to stick to a stock spec build. This becomes even...

    Sluggish starter

Thats a good point man, I run a 160 stat as well, overheating has never been an issue with the new engine. The PO had monkeyed with the timing on the old engine and had issues so he got a big block radiator instead of fixing the timing (go figure right?) The current starter works just fine, the...

    Sluggish starter

I lost everything connected to the headlight switch all at once. Then the battery started dying on me. Thought it might have been the alternator, but she holds steady voltage with the engine running. The headlights have always been crap on this truck since day one. I installed the LMC HD...

    Sluggish starter

Long story made short and hopefully entertaining. Truck still no start, stranded me at the new house on the big day, said F U to the square for the week, nearly killed myself moving in the hottest weather of the last two years, put new starter on truck three times before it was right, NOW she...

You won't regret that trade for a second. I LOVE my 383, when the ancillary bits aren't busy breaking that is....

    Sluggish starter

Thanks HRPC, yep we have been watching every dime for almost three months now. What with the first two houses falling through roughly three weeks shy of closing. The first one had too many problems for the underwriters of the PMI to sign off on. The second one had a deed restriction WE...

any tips for removing stripped flexplate/flywheel bolts?

I'm glad you got her going again, but those bolts are probably a tiicking time bomb now. I would go ahead and get them out while you have it apart, rather than wait for one (or two) of those compromised bolts to fail at some later date.

    Flywheel help

Yep, what he said^^ The newer motors flexplate has a smaller diameter hole for the crankshaft. Found that one out the hard way myself.

any tips for removing stripped flexplate/flywheel bolts?

I'm going to assume you have already soaked these stubborn bastards in the penetrating oil of your choice correct? If not, it can't hurt to try it now. I was going to suggest a manual impact wrench, which is a harder hit than a cheater bar, but less destructive than an air/electric impact gun...

    Sluggish starter

dhamp, I had that very same thought when I read it. I really do hope this will help for the short term until I can do something else with the headers. I can't be spending any money right now though, closing on the new house in less than a week.

any tips for removing stripped flexplate/flywheel bolts?

If the heads are already screwed clamp the Vise-Grips on the bolt then beat on the pliers with a hammer. I hate that resistance, resisitance, slip feeling of a fastener letting go, especially when its something really important or hard to get at....

    Sluggish starter

Thanks Fish, I was thinking stainless when I typed that. I have a DC Sports ceramic coated header on my DD and it has been great, but the truck is a whole other kettle of fish! Get ready to cry C4 my friend because I'm saving my money! I got an el-cheapo heat blanket type shield from Advance...

    Sluggish starter

Yeah, I need some of the Thermo-tec wrap, I don't have enough clearance for a clip on shield. The real solution to my problem is going to be a better set of headers. I'm looking at the Hedman Elites and the Dougs, both of which are hella expensive, but you do get what you pay for...

    Sluggish starter

It was the wiring to the starter that was effed up after all. I had got the ground strap on the terminal in such a way that it couldn't make good contact on the starter body. Soooo no ground=no power! re-wired it properly (removing more skin from my knuckles in the process) and the 85 is...

    383 engine combo recommendation

He could always grow into the heads so to speak. I would like to get a little more cam for my 383 but don't really know where to begin. And all that extra torque does come in awful handy LOL

    Sluggish starter

Well the new fusible link didn't fix it either! Now I really am out of ideas. All the fuses are OK, the wiring to the starter is OK, fusible link is new. Ignition switch? Would that cause a total lack of electrical power inside the cab as well? Should I replace the battery? It isn't holding...

    Sluggish starter

Thats gotta be it then. Thank God new fusible links are cheap and easy to do. If I had to wrestle the damned starter out again I was gonna scream! I was soooooo pissed when the HD starter didn't work, that thing was less than half the weight of the OE piece! And it was tiny too, like a third...

    Sluggish starter

The question then becomes what the hell could have fried the fusible link? The battery wasn't even hooked up when I installed the starter, I had the kill switch off and the key hanging inside the house. Could the fusible link have been causing the problem in the first place I wonder......
