Will a Flywheel from a 79 350 fit and work on a 96 vortec 350? Oreillys shows different part numbers for the 2 trucks So iwould assume that they wont interchange but if anyone knows for sure would appreciate it.

I am going to say no, in 1986 (I think) they switched over to a one piece rear main seal. The older motor will have a 2 piece and they require different flywheels.

Ya know, im not even even sure of the difference. Im talking about manual flywheels, if you have a flexplate maybe it will transfer over.... Grey area there.

The '86-up motors have the one-piece crank seal and the flange is a different size because of it. The newer flywheels also have a balance weight on them.

Yep, what he said^^ The newer motors flexplate has a smaller diameter hole for the crankshaft. Found that one out the hard way myself.
