acceleration stumbles unless throttle is feathered

I'll check into it. Thanks. I also heard the 87 - 95 TBI motors are really picky when it comes to EGR valves and that the best way to get the right one is to go to the dealer with the VIN. Anybody know if that's true. I went to Oreilly's and got the BWD part that was listed for my Suburban.

acceleration stumbles unless throttle is feathered

I have a 91 Sub V2500 5.7. I just replaced the engine with a boneyard unit. When out driving it runs well with one exception. I have the be gentle on the throttle or it will hesitate and seem to miss until I get up to around 50 mph. If I feather the throttle it doesn't do it. I put new...

Where can I buy coolant lines for a 4L80e?

I'm going to use braided steel line and Russell fittings as well as the adapters from Sweet Performance. My next question is, what size are the fittings that go into the radiator? 1/2, 3/8, 5/16, or 1/4 inch? I need to buy the adapters for radiator to Russell -6 AN fittings.

Where can I buy coolant lines for a 4L80e?

One of the transmission coolant lines on my 91 Suburban is leaking. It's the 4L80e. Does anyone have a source for buying replacement lines? I think the original is bent and therefore can't make a proper seal anymore. I've looked online and can't seem to find any. Thanks.

91 Suburban - Engine turns overs, Chatters, Won't Fire

I took off the starter and had it tested. It was in working order, so I took some emery cloth to all the connections. Then I switched out the battery that was in it (a Wal Mart battery) with a high-power Interstate battery. Crossed my fingers, turned the key and it started right up. Thanks...

It will crank very slowly at times.

91 Suburban - Engine turns overs, Chatters, Won't Fire

The battery is the one that started the old engine back in April when I pulled it into the garage to start the project. When I tested it with a voltmeter, it showed 10 volts. I put it on a battery charger and got it up to 12.5 volts but it still chattered. Maybe the batter is shot even...

91 Suburban - Engine turns overs, Chatters, Won't Fire

I just finished up replacing the engine in my 91 Suburban. The replacement is a boneyard engine (5.7 350) which is the same as the one that came out of it. I got everything hooked back up yesterday - filled the engine with oil and the radiator with coolant - went to turn it on and will crank...

    V2500 Front Shock Bolt Problem

I have a 91 V2500 Suburban (5.7). I'm changing the front shocks (I think the ones on it are original they look so bad). I got the lower bolts out fine and got the nuts off the upper bolts but I can't seem to get the upper bolts to come out. They will turn but when I tap them with a hammer to...

    Computer question

I think I have the problem solved (fingers crossed)...As a last resort I cut off the catalytic converter and replaced it with a straight pipe. It's been three days and no hesitation/power loss issues yet. From what I've read, the cat must've been close to completely gone. Thanks for all the...

    91 5.7 TBI hesitation problem

Well, so far so good. Drove it yesterday for a while and my son drove it to school today. He said there weren't any incidents with power loss or hesitation. The converter may have been the issue. Bad thing is I put a whole bunch of new parts on it trying to solve the problem but hey, at...

    91 5.7 TBI hesitation problem

I cut off the converter and put on a straight pipe. I'm crossing my fingers but I think this solved the problem. Thanks for all the help.

Well, the EGR didn't fix it...what now?

I cut off the cat and put on a straight pipe. I'm crossing my fingers but I think it did the trick. I think it was the original cat so I'm sure it was bad.

Well, the EGR didn't fix it...what now?

I replaced the fuel filter. Yes, the cat is original. There is no smog pump on it so I guess the cat serves no purpose now anyway. Wasn't sure if it might be a bad O2 sensor. I've got a section of straight pipe and thought I'd go ahead and cut the cat off and replace it with the straight pipe...

Unsure of that. I don't have a timing light.

Well, the EGR didn't fix it...what now?

Hey Everybody, My 91 V2500 5.7 4WD (4L80) has a power loss/hesitation problem at highway speed. I've replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, Plug Wires, Rotor and Cap, EGR Valve, EGR Vacuum Solenoid, Fuel Filter, PCV Valve, AND Fuel Pump. It's still got the problem. I'm stumped!! No Check...

    Computer question

Not sure of the gear ratio. Where would I look for that? Tires are 265/75/16. I heard that in 1990 Suburbans still had 700R4 transmissions and then went to 4L80 in 1991. I wondered if the difference would cause a problem if this were the case. Where could I get a new chip and what reference...

    Computer question

I have a 1991 4WD 3/4 ton Suburban 5.7 350 4L80 transmission. Some time in the past a body from a 1990 2WD 2500 was put on the chassis. So, I guess you could call it a hybrid. My question is, would problems occur if the computer is from the 2WD? If yes, should I look for a computer from...

Ok. I'll do that some time this week. Not sure when though. The incoming weather may hamper working outside for a while.

    91 5.7 TBI hesitation problem

I just changed the Distributor cap and rotor. The metal under the rotor was very rusted. I tried to clean up as much rust as I could and put the new rotor and cap on. It's an Accel unit. We'll see if it makes any difference.
