Were Wooden Beds Painted at Factory?

I am getting conflicting information on this question. I can tell you my clean low mileage '84 had the bed painted, including the wood, metal strips, bolts, etc. I was told it came like this from the factory. However, I'm told by some "car show guys" that the beds were not painted like...

    Ticking Lifter?

I did not listen to the sound byte, but............. at any given time when the engine is stopped, a valve can be partially open and all the associated valve train to that lifter will have no clearance in it. So if the clicking noise is caused by a loose valve train (the adjusting nut on top...

    Build Sheet Location?

A buddy of mine found the build sheet for his car in the springs under his front seat. On the sheet was written "I love your car" by the assembly worker who helped put it together. But back to the topic at hand, I'm getting from all the responses that our trucks typically did not include a...

    Build Sheet Location?

Where did most of you guys find your build sheets. I've always found them in cars up under the seat stuffed in the springs. No luck looking there on my '84Silverado. Thanks, Stepperado

    Step Side Bed Liners??

Hey, that's a thought. I'll look into that one. Thanks Bucket.

    Step Side Bed Liners??

I'm not nearly so worried about protecting the floor as I am in protecting the sheet metal. I can alway throw a sheet of plywood on the floor if I'm going to do something nasty with it, but the sides are another story.

    Short Bed Stake Body Sides

I'm thinking about making a wooden stake body side kit for my step side. I know I'll be filling this thing with branches/sticks. Not only would it hold more, but it will keep the sides of the truck from being scratched up. I can make my own stuff if I have to, but does someone already have...

    Step Side Bed Liners??

I understand that's an option, but I'd rather not. I don't know what the production figures for step sides is, but it must have been relatively low because it appears it's not worth anyone's time to produce bed liners for them.

    Step Side Bed Liners??

    Dual exhaust crossmember

I've looked on the internet, but can not find a bolt in transmission crossmember made to accomodate a dual exhaust system. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks, Stepperado

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

All right, after some attention it's getting better.......... Last tank was 15.1 mpg. This is mostly driving back and forth to work on country roads, not a whole lot of stopping, and cruising around 50mph. 84 shortbed, 305, TH350C, 2.73. When I convert to a 700r4, I can see this...

    Headlight buzzer

OK, 89 suburban is 'da man. You really helped out, cause I could not find this info in my shop manual. Now that I know what I'm looking for I'll go through it again. Thanks for your effort buddy. Stepperado

    Headlight buzzer

Almost got stranded with the wife at the movies because I left my headlights on. Time to fix that buzzer warning signal for dummies. I looked at the wiring diagrams in my original shop manual, but so far I can't find it. I'll keep looking. In the mean time, is the buzzer for the...

Lowering Leaf Springs. Can't Find Them

I could modify the support in a heartbeat and make it look factory. I just don't want to do any cutting on this particular truck.

Drop Spindles, are they all the same?

Any vendors to steer clear of when shopping for spindles? This is a precision made part (or it should be!) and I hesitate to shop by price. With that said, I also don't want to throw good money away just to say I have "brand x" spindles. Thanks, Stepperado

Lowering Leaf Springs. Can't Find Them

If you don't mind cutting a bed support to make room for them, there is no problem.

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

You are right, I meant to say a high vacuum with light throttle. However, I have to politely disagree with a 2.73 getting worse mileage due to lugging. If your engine is lugging, then the transmission needs some help because it should shift into a lower gear and keep the engine in its' happy...

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

I think you're right about the cable being set correctly. The shifts are smooth and very pleasant at light throttle, then they firm up and are a bit snappier when you start to get in it. I'd love to get one of those giraffe's. If you could supply me with a vendor and part number I'd be...

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

Glad you asked 350runner.......... I spend a lot of time on the country back roads going 45-50mph, sometimes reaching 55mph. I will intentionally keep a very light throttle so my vacuum is at a minimum trying to get an OD shift, but it doesn't happen very often.

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

Not sure if you misread my post, but it's a 2.73 rear. I believe that's the most highway friendly gear offered in our trucks and should give you the best mileage.

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

My 84 short bed, 305, 700r4 got 15 on the way home after buying it. That was almost all highway miles. Last time I checked around town it's getting 12. I am currently on a quest to see how much better I can get it because honestly I expected it to be better. With the small v8, a 2.73 rear...

    Cutting Front Coils

OK guys, that's pretty much what I expected to hear and I appreciate you getting back to me so quick. I've cut springs on a couple different cars and never did the torch thing to bend the bottom of the spring. Thanks again, Stepperado
