Height difference

Hi,

I noticed that my 74 c10 is half an inch lower on the right side compared to the left. I am thinking it is because of the tank being in that side, but is that normal? We just spent the weekend installing new front springs and shocks front and rear. Still the same.

I wonder if I should pursue the idea of compensating with a spacer of sorts for the shock, but I really have no idea how to approach this. We spent hours on hours measuring the car and there just is no other explanation than the extra weight of the fuel tank.

Have other people had this problem and solved it?

the proper solution is leaf springs. the driver side sees more wear and use compared to passenger + more constant load. a c10 could have some front end components like springs make effect too.

You mentioned new front springs. It could be the rear springs, bushings or body mounts.

Shocks control wheel travel, but don’t have anything to do with spring rate.

The old chevy lean. Usually see trucks leaning to the driver side.

New springs properly seated?
Not convinced it would be the gas but you could run it down to e and measure again, it's free.

Body mounts? As said, springs seated properly? My guess is body mounts.

You didn't mention replacing control arm bushings. The rubber could be worn and causing a slight drop.

I've noticed that exact same thing on my truck, consistently a one inch drop on the passenger (fuel tank) side from the front to the rear. I can't imagine a tank of gas to weigh that much to shift the entire truck, I had just assumed it had worn differently over the forty years since it came into my possession

Is it? I thought only K30/crew cabs had taller frames.

Oh ****. Maybe That's what I was thinkin...but I bet it is! A one ton frame is like two inches taller or somethin...a 3/4 not that much but some , right?

Make sure the front spring are seated correctly in the pockets. I've had issues with 2 of my Suburbans crab walking. The issues was the R/R leaf spring had fatigued (both were 454 3/4 tons). The right spring has longer from eye let to eye let than the left. It would also cause the height to be lower as the spring was "stretched out".

Also when you take the measurements, check the frame height to the ground and also axle centerline to the upper horizontal body line.

Thank you all for input and thoughts.

I will try to take some measurements of the leaf springs and see where that brings me.
