Non-related question, is that still their legit phone number? Like, y'all still don't have area codes in some places there? Lol
I think that just dates him. Back in the day, we never went by area codes, just only seven digits. This is back in the days of rotary phones. You kids wouldn’t know about that, lol.

When I was a kid we only had to dial the last number of the prefix, then the line number (last four digits). Then the population grew and we had to dial the entire prefix and line number. The area code changed in 1982 due to population growth. If I recall correctly, dialing the entire prefix coincided with the area code change. I was told that prior to only dialing the last number of prefix, it was only the line number.

I'm *just* old enough to remember that. They instituted area codes here around the time I was 8-9yrs old. I know there's places that still don't use/need them but it's fascinating to me that they still exist. GA is growing so fast, they added 2 more area codes within the last decade and just added another

The recommendation of the rotating assembly was for a Melling 55HV (high volume, 5/8” inlet). But everyone is telling me that high volume is a waste of time and money. I’m guessing that with them not knowing what clearances are, the manufacturer erred on the side of high volume, but if anyone has any input let me know.

Lots of people recommend the shark tooth Melling, but they get unfavorable reviews due to quality issues.

Edit- this is an oil pump question for the uninitiated.

Sounds about right. HV pumps were all the rage back in the days when we ran REALLY loose (.003"+) bearing tolerances with 50W oil. These days it's about tight bearing clearances (for durability/longevity) and it's ok to run standard volume pumps. Not to mention the HV pumps take more power just to turn the pump gears and can cause spark scatter at higher RPM's due to the pulsating drag applied to the drive assembly. So you should be fine with an M55 pump if you are running fairly tight (.0015-.002") clearances. Not sold on the fancy "shark tooth" pumps but I hear good things about them.

You’re third in a row to mention the 10552- the shop down by Seattle was the first, then last night the other guy that did my boring and decking texted me that would be his choice as well. Vizard talks all about modifying the 55 in his book to reduce the chatter, but it’s my impression that the ST pumps do away with that.

The only think to look out for is the bypass- apparently there were many reports of the bypass orifice being partially blocked even with it all the way open, so that’s something to look out for. Some guys were having 100+ psi even with the weak spring. But they would probably have that problem worked out by now.

Just run the standard Melling and a pickup that either bolts to the pump or tack weld it in position. I've seen HV pumps starve themselves due to the pump moving more oil up top faster than it could drain back especially with a stock style/volume pan.

+1 My strategy is always oil control, not so much volume. I like running a bigger sump just for oil quantity as I know it will get hot, so more oil to spread out the BTU's per ounce helps it live - in extreme conditions if those should ever arise.

After binge-scrolling Chad's thread here, it appears this build will see some extreme duty going by that small converter, spicy cam and the fact he watches FSM garage, this may be more spicy than my build. I'd go with the ST deal and let you decide on spring pressure, since she will likely see some RPM. and good on ya brother! This is now going to motivate me to making even more bad choices with my truck. XD

It’ll be “spicy” until I shred the transmission with a “HeLl YeAh BrOThEr” and this fall you’ll see “Chuck’s Transmission build thread”. Lol

On the last leg of the machine work. Got to North Seattle early today to pick up the block after the align hone and deliver back to my home machine shop in Bellingham before Friday hours ended (he closes doors early to work without interruptions).

The bottom of the bores are just going to get a tiny bit of chamfering, the dowels and plugs installed, and the cam bearings too. After a test fit of the cam for that alignment, it’ll be coming home for me to finish.
