I’m looking for a tonneau cover for my 1978 Chevy short box. What brand and style have people used. Pros/cons??

There is a guy in Portland that custom makes them. He goes by the name "Meth Breath".

How secure does it need to be?
What's the main purpose?

Basically 2-3 different styles and 2-3 materials.

Roll-up- flexible for loads
Tri-fold- flexible for loads
1 piece- Looks the best IMO but PITA if you have to haul anything oversize. My sister had one on her F150 and she had to remove probably once a month to haul bikes, bbq, etc

Vinyl- easily can be broke into $
Aluminum- secure $$$$
ABS/ fiberglass- $$$

For my last new truck, I used a tri-fold hard tonneau. It was like a giant trunk that was locked secure, weather tight, and I could fold it up in sections or entirely for hauling different items.

For my '77, I am considering Pros-Pick but I plan to buy a Mar-K tool box so don't know if it will work. Just needs to secure luggage for road trips or car shows but still looks nice.

I plan to buy a hard tri-fold for my CC DRW as I use it for hauling, travel, etc.

Ben, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, Mar K went out of business. If somebody has that box you want in stock, grab it. 4/1/25 was their last day and from what I gather it wasn't pretty.

Wow, thanks Michael, I didn't know. Sucks as they were the only place for a lot of items. They had the highest quality side trim for our trucks. And they were the only place that had the bolts I needed for our '77 bed. They were supposed to come out with the fleet side toolbox this fall and I was going to order 2. I'm going to call around and see if anyone has the step side box I can adapt.

This is a tri-fold soft cover I'll be getting soon. It was highly recommended to me.

I have a tri-fold Tonno Pro on my truck, had it for 5 years and it's been great. Still looks great and is completely water tight other than where I have the karate chop in the center of my tailgate.

For a 1978 Chevy short box, popular tonneau cover choices include soft roll-up covers like TruXedo, which are affordable and easy to install but offer less security, tri-fold hard covers such as BakFlip that provide better protection while still allowing easy access to the bed, and retractable hard covers like Retrax, which give the best security and a sleek look but are more expensive. The choice depends on whether you prioritize cost, convenience, or maximum security.
