-73 C20- cleanin up under the hood so I can drop a 5.3 / 4l60e in there next week...also tore the column down to the firewall, cleaned it, replaced some stuff with nos parts, new turn signal switch, greased the bearing, new ignition housing and ignition cylinder too, basically a new column with an original 73-76 wheel. Before the new engine/trans goes in, gonna pull the front clip, clean/scuff/shoot the core, paint the new inner fenders, pressure wash the firewall and try to get some shine to it. Keepin the body’s ‘super shitbox’ look but going for a brand-new, show truck look for the engine bay

Added some Rislone Super Cool to the coolant overflow bottle. Not the best way to get it into the system, but beats opening a completely hot radiator cap.

No real reason- experimentation.

:)

I have some in the Camaro and Balt ( well, Rislone Water Wetter in those ) and figured why not ?

And for anyone wondering what I mean by “super-shitbox”, this is the 73 in all of its glory before it gets LS swapped and bagged lol

I'm not going to let this catastrophic oil consumption beat me, so nothing but the best for 'Ol Yeller (You don't need none of those damn fancy detergents).

$1.39 a quart at my local gas station, I bought them out of the ****. The truck has to last me just a couple more weeks until I have the time to drop in the new motor.a

I was having intermittent charging issues with my truck, so I replaced the alternator with an Advance Auto reman'd unit. It seemed to have fixed the problem for about a week or so until it stopped charging completely. So I took it back to Advance and exchanged it for yet another alternator, and it wouldn't charge either.

At that point, I figured the problem had to lie elsewhere. The plug looked like hell, so I figured that might be the problem.....

I cut it off and soldered a new plug on, and it didn't make a difference. Well long story short, I replaced the alternator today with a new one from NAPA and so far, so good!

A word of advice, don't buy alternators from Advance. I should have gone to NAPA to begin with.

Got it....

that was not fun. Goofed and left the breaker bar hanging on the bolt for the ballencer pulley. Lol made such a HORRIFIC sound. But thankfully it did no damage.

She seems to be running EXTREMELY well compared to before. But still going to get it timed this evening. My light is at the shop.

Thanks. Please give update on how they ride and handle.
I ran the Monroe years ago add changed to the Bell Tech. This was before the extra 152 lbs was added to the top of the engine. They are low pressure shocks and just didn’t like the weight but I tolerated the spongy feel until they wore out. The yellows suit my needs more. I just can’t just come out & say spend the $$ they would be right for someone else, since our setup would most likely differ.

Threw a new distributor, coil and leads into my Burb. Found the harmonic balancer has slipped the outer ring when timing her up, so guess I'll be adding that as one of the next jobs to do

I like where this going, except, with my 79, im not even taking the time to make the engine bay shiney.... shes just gonna look inside and out as i got her, dirty and faded.

The big block has gotten dingey from sitting in the elements under the hood of my k5 i was working on, so it'll all work out how i want....

In my opinion for this 79... i want it to be as ratty/original as possible, so its just that much more shameful when i walk some clowns shiney moostang

Did a little drunk shopping last night and Ordered the shift kit for my th400 i will be working on.
Cross referenced the number for jeggs, found it on amazon, so it'll get here before this weekend....

*fingers crossed* i'll be building my th400 this weekend....
With the mock up trans i bolted in, i was able to establish my driveline length... i have a th400 driveshaft and slip yoke with 1350 joints on it already, i just need it lengthened, and i need to change out the 12 bolt flange for a 1350....

Still debating on building that axle NOW, or just beating it to death until it explodes.... then building it....

Opinions?

The buildup would be probably a 3.42 gear set from richmond, a detroit true trac or yulon duragrip, and yukon oversized chromoly shafts, and at least 1 track bar to keep axle wrap down

Around my neck of the woods, a lot of folks got the flashy new chargers n challengers n mustangs etc, and I figure with something that looks that crusty on the outside, they’ll have no clue what it’s got on the inside until I’m at the next light

If you already getting the driveshaft lengthened, you can just get a 1350 to 1310 adapter u-joint to replace the one on there currently. That 12 bolt is a factory G80 like your suburban, right? I'd just drive it like that until it goes boom and then drop a new yukon in it like you did to the burb.
