I have a free group 94r battery and I would like to put it to good use, its an OEM battery from a jeep and It got given to me because it discharged.. well I added distilled water and charged it and it tested good at a auto store, so Im guessing their alternator cooked it but its still working.

If its good and big, it would suit me good in the truck. But that is obviously a little wide for the battery tray. I could custom make something but if there was an aftermarket tray hey im game.

If that’s the same battery as a Ram the positive and negative posts are opposite of what is in your truck now.

You got a free battery that may be good. You want to use it, I got that. Now you want to spend money and modify your square to use it? Cut a piece of 2x6 to fit in the tray. Set the battery on top and rope or Ty-Wrap it in, done.

The battery, having been discharged completely, at lease once, may not even start your truck after sitting a day.

I said it tested good, I should have added i let it sit for a few days once fully charged and it held it. but i am thinking a 2x4 would raise the battery up into contact with the hood. Im saying if i can put a bracket in thats bigger id just get a bigger bracket and always use a bigger battery but if i have to make something i can too. maybe if i shorten the tray and use wood? I have like 3 battery trays laying around

i have room to move them, they are both able to be used on either side if i wanted. and my bad, its actually a 95 battery by looking at it. I could have swore it was a 94r. but either way its a big battery

Looks pretty custom. Looks to be an L bracket off the fender(kind of like my plow hydraulics) with just a wood base and a battery secured??

Why shorten the tray? Then when you go back to the right size battery it won't fit. The group 95 is smaller and shorter right? So use the OEM battery tray and get one of those universal battery strap systems that use all thread and cut the all-thread off. You can actually make your own by buying a $2 piece of all thread at Lowe's or Home Depot and use a vise to bend a hook in one end of the all thread. Also keep in mind, as Chip said, your terminals will be reversed so make sure your cables are long enough to reach the proper terminal, and also try to keep that positive away from the inside of the fender so it don't ground out.

OK,, so I see it's a longer battery actually. Careful on that rubber strap. If that battery happens to leak a bit, it'll destroy that rubber strap pretty quick and then you know what's up. I'd keep an eye on it.

Its temporary, it was more of a joke pretending that I solved my issue of a battery tray, i solved it by installing it sideways and held in with rubber straps lol.

I said shorten because the top posts at that very height, a height a proper tray probably has, puts the positive and negative top posts too close to the hood. the ground cables actually do contact the hood like this.

I dont have a stock tray in the truck. the tray is a 67-72 tray welded to the remainder of what i think was a support for original tray.

Can I see your battery trays? How do they mount? Know of any longer trays?

This is from an 85 originally a 6.2 Diesel Truck so it has both left and right side batteries.

Looks like a '73-'80 tray. I'm surprised you have a couple of those in good shape, it's not common these days.
