Lubed the speedo cable again as the speedo started going wonky (again  ) at low speeds.

What's the preferred lube for a speedo cable?

Brown's got a squeak that acts up sometimes. Didn't want to use something that may help for the moment but would eventually gum things up.

I have always removed the inner cable wiped it down and then lubed it with transmission fluid. you dont want a heavy oil or grease because it will affect it during cold weather.

Somebody mentioned in one thread about powdered graphite coupled with some liquid - machine oil, perhaps.

I really don't know - I used WD 40.

I had it - why not ?

Downside is that when you spray the end outside and it runs down on the rubber floormats guess what it makes your truck smell like …

Oh, well.

I'm going to be doing a little bit every day until I have the body fully welded up, then I'm going to have it sandblasted, and I'll begin the Bondo work.

I'm spraycanning it yellow due to the fact that its my only running/driving car right now, and I want it looking respectable

I hope that I'll have it properly painted by the end of the summer.

You are still around, and your old truck is still around, so in the end it was just another notch in your life experience belt.

All good. :)

Finally got all the pieces together to mount the spare. Thanks to @78C10BigTen for coming up with the carrier and that couple on ebay that sells chassis parts I was able to get the missing crossmember.

Now, after 35 years of lugging that POS around in the bed it's finally secured where it belongs.

It's amazing how empty the bed looks without it in there. Like a pickup bed should look. Ready to do work, not having it's own pieces taking up cargo space. I think I'll put it to work tonight.

Changed both headlights - supposed to do them in pairs, and the new Chinese made Sylvanias :flame: are halogen.

The old ones were GE 2B1's - no idea how old, but not halogen.

Gotta love PO's and or their mechanics-

Passenger side had all original torx screws.

Drivers side had 2 torxes , 2 flat heads, and a Phillips.

At least the Phillips made sense...

Oh, well- they hold.

I do have a door skin for the other side, but I think going to try and beat out the dent on that side instead.

Diagnosed my stutter/miss/sputter that started out of the blue last Friday. It was running like crap when I bought it, did carb/dizzy/plugs/set timing/etc and it’s been running great for 3-4 months now.

All of a sudden, runs like total junk. Timing is still good, dizzy looks good, carb doesn’t just fall out of adjustment so I start pulling plugs. Number 5 was a little dark, number 6 had a mist of oil on it. So I did a compression check, 5 is 110, 6 is 95 [emoji20]

Oh well. I’ve got about 60% of the stuff bought for the LS swap. Just gotta get the rest and get it done.
