I have a 1976 K10 short bed, small block with the NP203 transfer case. I am having trouble engaging the transfer case particularly in high lock. I seem to be able to get in lower lock more often but there Are times when I can’t engage four-wheel-drive. I have manual locking hubs. Is this is more likely to be in transfer case linkage issue or internal components?

I would think the linkage is binding, they were a little hard to shift new. Lubricating the mechanism(A LOT) is how I've gotten mine to work

Lube and adjust. Iirc, you put it in neutral and line up some holes in the linkage, then tighten it back up. But it's been a long time since I've done it.

I've had to spray mine with a half a can of penetrating oil as well. It tends to get really stiff if it sits for any period of time. Its easy to remove the plate around the shifter and spray it all from the top.

Fyi, 203 shifters are notoriously problematic so it may be the mechanism itself at the base of the stick. Twin stick kits are readily available and reasonably priced so I wouldn't spend a lot fixing the factory shifter.

Aligning and lubricating the shifter is the most likely fix, so I would try that first.

However, if you have manual locking hubs, its also very likely that your T-case has been converted to part-time 4WD. If a converted T-case is not run in 4WD (or Loc) periodically there can be issues with the oil distribution in the case, but I'm not really sure what symptoms that would cause.

That looks nice but, for $185 you'd think they could have the sticks chromed (or at least powder coated).
I like chrome. Especially bumper thingies, and shifters, and bumpers. Chrome chrome chrome!

Agreed, chrome would be a nice option to look like factory. But chroming is high dollar stuff these days.

JB Fabrication sells stainless shifters, but they don't offer a 203 kit. I don't think.
