I went to a local shop to see if they'd install the glass if I supplied the gasket since it is a '65 and they may have difficulty getting one and I had already bought it from Steele-Rubber Company. He asked what vehicle and I said that truck right there, the '65 I drove in here. "We don't replace glass on anything older than 1974." I had planned on removing the old glass, and cleaning up the metal, and then drive it illegally the few miles to the shop, but he shut me down before I could even tell him that.

Lol, seems like an odd year for a cutoff.

I've not dealt with many glass shops at all. I've got a friend that has his own mobile windshield business and so far he's been willing to work on every piece of junk I've asked him too. He drives the same kind of stuff as I do though.

It is an odd year-cut-off. Back in the late 90's I used Safelite to replace the windshield in Mean Green (1965 3/4 ton) and they didn't even question it. Made an appointment, drove the 2 hours to their facility, waited about an hour for them to finish and never had any leaks or anything. But the metal was rust-free, so there is that...lol...

This particular glass shop, it was the second time I had tried to use them. The first time was to buy some butyl tape so I could fix a vent window. They had never heard of it. Each time I was just passing down that road and decided to stop in for what I thought was an easy thing to get or do.

I had just replaced the windshield in my square.....3 days later on the way back from having my bedliner sprayed in.....and POW !! a crack in my windshield. Oh yeah and of course the crack was in the lower passenger side and couldn't be fixed. My windshield has the antennae in it and since it has one crack, I will just wait until more happen before replacing it. I was pissed when it happened.
